Kinefinity new cameras

Okay, went to NAB for the last day today and asked about the batteries. The "BP-30" batteries are indeed the Sony BPU-30 batteries, so a very inexpensive battery solution. The model numbers must be different from China to the US I guess but that's good to know now.

I think most people expected it to have a new sensor since the 5K model does. The folks in the booth said that it's the same one used in the KinaMAX 6K though.

The box is surprisingly small; even smaller than a Red Scarlet, and uses only 30 watts, very impressive for a 6K camera.

I'm very interested in their cameras, I played with some of the cinema dng footage and cineform raw in Da vinci resolve and they are good, as far as color goes.
I do hope they improve on the distribution and servicing, especially in North America. Europe is covered by HDVideo in Berlin and I think they're doing a good job in marketing and support.
The dealership link for the US did not even have a website last time I checked, only an email.

Last time I checked, the "dealership" out in California only facilitated the communication/building process. All cameras are still coming from China. Could have changed tho.

If a reputable dealership would carry this in the U.S. that would be a real challenge to the big name brands. I would look at how they would handle customer service, warranties, etc before making an investment.

As far as footage and features, it's as good as the other guys. I have tested and edited RAW footage from Red, Ursa mini, 5dm2 and m3 with ML and it's right up there.

I don't think they have a storefront either.

BTW, ever since the Chinese tube Hi-Fi amps became easily accessible, there have been several US based sites that have tried to receive an exclusive distribution for North America. Most of those places, the last time I checked, have gone under.

I met with the company in Beijiing where they are located in a little loft apartment in the suburbs last year with the intention of trying to put together a US Distribution system. For whatever reason they didn't warm to my ideas and I never heard back from them. They seem to be overly protective almost paranoid.

The point i tried to drive home to them is that their camera would never be the choice of ad companies and such who are lulled by "brand" names and it would be the indy filmmakres who didn't care if they didn't use the latest over priced Red or Sony on their indy films who would buy it, and as such it was over priced.

The Terra 6K might just hurt the competition. If they can deliver, Id rather get this than the ursa mini 4.6k

And for those who really wanted the switchable global/rolling shutter and 15 stops of dynamic range, there's the 5K Terra... :)

Their Kinemount is a plus as well... :)
