Kidnappings
With all due respect, BLWolf, as far as I know, the Twin Towers tragedy was not a fact of war coming from Iraq, but from Afghanistan and I think to remember that, under the mandate of the United Nations, France participated in the military actions that followed without any hesitation.
Very respectfully, you're right, the attack on the Twin Towers did come from Afghanistan not Iraq and the French stood beside us when that happened. But the point that I was trying to make is that we are fighting the same war now as we were then. The war on terror knows no national borders and we will take the fight to wherever we need to. If France was bombed on 9/11 the U.S.A. would have been the first country scrambling fighters and offering military aid. And if France's fight against oppression and terror had eventually led them into Iraq, we would have been there fighting shoulder to shoulder alongside our French allies instead of opposing, denouncing, and deserting them.

How many international mandates had to be ignored, how many people had to be killed and tortured, and how long did an entire country have to live under a terrorist dictatorial regime before something was done? Something needed to be done and we did it. I'm not naive enough to think that everything that the U.S does is perfect and swell, but I believe the world will be a better place for our actions in Iraq. Many people, old and young, now have hope where no hope existed before.

I was in beautiful Paris when the U.S.A. went to war to free Iraq and the anti-U.S.A. sentiments that I saw and experienced pissed me off. I saw demonstrations against the United States. It was all I could do not to yell, "Americans lost their lives to liberate France. If it wasn't for us all you people would be speaking German!"

I just get tired of seeing countries bad-mouthing the U.S.A. and then expecting us to bail them out if they get in trouble, so that they can go back to bad-mouthing us.

I apologize if I offended anyone. I meant no disrespect. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Don't appologize man. That's part of the problem, is us who are "rooting" for what's right in the world are made to feel BAD about it! The people who are bashing the US and it's leaders sure don't appologize for their behavior (including those "americans" who are attacking us from the inside out).

It's sad when the word "patriotism" now means "racist" or "insensitive"... what a load. The vets who fought & died for what used to be a great united country are rolling about 3500rpm in their graves right now.

Re: Kidnappings

One last thought then i'll shutup :)

If all these people around the world and in America don't like it, and think it's so bad and think they could do SO much better of a job, Antartica isn't taken... go start your own nation based on your paganism... :)

haha i'd better tone it down... i forget i'm on a board of mainly Canadians and not all Americans! lol

Re: Kidnappings

Hip Hip Hooray!!!!! Kick some butts and start taking names! We are the good guys! If you don't like it than you know what you can do. Just Leave!!! 8)

Re: Kidnappings

I'm not sure I can give anything here to anyone, but anyway...

First off - God Bless the USA!

Now that you've read that, you know what side of the fence your on by your first thoughts.

If you bubbled a bit inside, your 100% right in your thinking as far as I'm concerned.

If you maybe thought "ya, but so trite", you may be 75% right in your thinking.

If you said "sheeze! Not another one", I'll still give you 50%.

If you said "There is no God", or "USA = $_*@_#$(_" or almost anything of this kind, you are on the opposite side of my fence for sure.

So, how did you fare? Are you now laughing, or upset?

How you just answered that last question will also confirm what side of the fence your on.

For those of us fortunate enough to live in the USA, you should understand your allegiance. It is not tied to who is presently sitting in any office, not taxes, not even right to life issues (please don't think of starting anything by this). It is just as plane as the nose on your face and really not any harder to understand then I've just made it.

So, you know who you are. You're on one side or the other. If it's not the right side, you would most likely be more happy elsewhere.

Still happy... More upset?

You get the picture, I'm sure.

I don't think the war in Iraq is really related to that. I maintain it has more to do with American economical interests (there are enormous oilfields in Iraq and the resources from the Arabic peninsula, mostly run by American companies, are slowly but surely getting dry), geopolitics (China will very soon become a huge petrol consumer — see : "economical interests") and ideology (the US foreign policy should not be under control of any "foreign" organization, was it called the United Nations) than with anti-terrorism.

I also think the Bush administration takes interest from September 11 to spread fear among its electorate, and amalgamates on purpose Islam and terrorism (i.e. all islamic countries are terrorist countries, subtext : any muslim is a potential terrorist) to hide the incredible failures of its domestic policy, all of these coloured by electoral reasons.

I've had a day now to cool off from my initial reading and response to this thread. And I'm still mostly of the opinion that America has nothing to apologize for as regards its actions in Iraq.

Sure, its about the oil. But look, my country has consistently been trying to soften the violent tendencies of middle eastern politics for several generations now. We've spent billions of dollars, not always in the right places, to try and get everyone to live and let live. We've gone to war to save Muslims from killing other Muslims in the last 5 out of six shooting conflicts. Do we get any credit for this? Nope.

Very well then. We're going to spend our own blood and treasure to have it our way, which is to enforce human rights in the middle east. And we're going to use Iraq as a huge airbase if necessary. Don't like it? Too bad. We'll start up more McDonalds restaurants and ship more Britney Spears DVDs to you until you give up. The Japanese are going to send you all their tourists, and force ever smaller electronic gadgets down your throats until you understand that the Civilized world is moving into your neighborhood. Deal with it, and do so peacefully, or become yet another 11 o'clock sound bite.

We know we're winning, and we know we'll win. I'm tired of hearing whiny excuses about why America is the bad guy.

Re: Kidnappings

OK, gotta say it . . .

It was *very much* French oil interests which led to their opposition to the removal of Saddam . . . so what's worse, propping up a murderous dictator for oil or removing him from power for oil (and funny; I don't see those Conoco tankers lined up 12 deep off the coast of Basra.  I guess we weren't in it for the oil after all . . . ) and replacing him with a free state?

How can you going to have credit for that?

Giving money and weapons to Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein is what you called "trying to soften the violent tendencies of middle eastern politics for several generations now"

It such a strange way to do it....

So Irangate tried to soften the violent tendencies...
So Colin Powell throwing out lies in the UN was to try soften the...
I just can believe it

I think peace it on your hands (american hands i mean) You should stop your gobernment from their actions. Use your democracy to make a better world.
Just imagine If some countries get together and says: America has weapons of mass destructions and they had use it/ had and has relationship with terrorism (in the past with Bin Laden/ Sadam/ Pinochet/ Franco) and now (Sharon/Gaddafi/The dictator in Pakistan - i can´t remember the name...) Both thing are facts totally proved. Would you accept and invasion for that?

We all forget that the inspections were doing a great job. Even with all the dificulties made by American Gobernment. It was the only way to control the situation. Now nothin surprise me. Even the 11-M in Madrid didn´t surprise me, but it woke me up.

By the way i am not from afganisthan. I am from noland/no country/ no religion. I am nothin but me.

HAHA in today's day & age, coming at these people (radical islam) with paper in hand is like trying to take out the east coast crips in Harlem with a butter knife. It was time to stop holding hands and hoping they'll submit to law & policy, and get some balls and stand up with force.

And we did. Boom. Can I get an Amen.... and a boom-shacka-laka.

We haven't even mentioned the UN's "Oil for Food" program over the past few years. This is the program that the US "purchased" billions (BILLIONS) of dollars worth of oil from Iraq, but not in cash... in food and medicine. Great program, right? It would've been, but Saddam sold it all on the black market, and told his people the US was killing all the people by witholding the medicine. (i've seen the direct result of this. I can show you footage)

Meanwhile... back at his hundreds of sparkly new palaces....

Re: Kidnappings

travis,

"I think peace it on your hands (american hands i mean) You should stop your gobernment from their actions. Use your democracy to make a better world. "

i know what you meant by this, but the U.S. is not a democracy.. it is a republic. which means we elect  representatives to act on our behalf because we understand that the general public does not always have the time, or knowledge, or information, or brains to make the right decision as to what is best for the country all the time, and besides it would take too long to  put every decision to a completely democratic vote.  so we voted for these people to make ourt decisions for us, and now they are in control, regardless of our opinions, or what we think. they fully understand that they are acting on behalf of the entire nation. we can only give them our support, and know that the U.S. is their country too, and expect that they are acting on behalf of the info, and issues at hand, with our countries best interest in mind. this is good becuase children dont always know whats best for them, and they may cry about it , but parents usually know best. our government is the proverbial parent/gaurdian of our country..   that is how a republic works.  we speak about democracy alot simply because we have a pretty democratic voting system to vote our elected officials in and out of office, but the actuall government is a republic.

p.s. there are quite a few U.S. citizens who are unaware that the U.S. is a republic, and not a democracy.. which is just silly becuase our "pledge of allegiance" which everyone knows quite obviosly states "....and to the republic , for which it stands..."
