Just wanted to stoke the fire a bit ;D

Re: Kidnappings

Beyond me that they are capturing and threatening to kill the same people that are trying to rebuild the infrastructure.  I say pull out and **** em all;  I'm tired of the US (and coalition) having to be the police.  Our efforts are obviously not appreciated and all we hear is "The people are angry at the U.S".

Sigh....  Let the fire rage.

The best is the actual Iraqi army that has refused to fight. One colum came under fire and retreated back to safety while another literally refused.

Re: Kidnappings

Saddam was one of the ugliest bastards on earth and he was to be arrested for sure, BUT...

... There was no need to lie to the world the way Bush and his allies did about massive destruction weapons. The Bush administration took the people of America and the people of the world for imbeciles and implicitely said to the world that the USA don't give a **** about the international community's opinion. They only succeeded in triggering more hatred, ignorance and fanatism against America than ever in History and subsequently helped spreading the very plague this war was supposed to eradicate : terrorism (not to mention that Iraq, in spite of all the numerous horrors Saddam's dictature was able of, was not implied in international terrorism).

I think the ideology hidden behind this war is extremely dangerous for our little planet. I think the underlying mercantile and electoral preoccupations of the american Government are responsible for the death of thousands  — and I refuse to make any discrimination between the victims : US Marines and Iraqi civilians are equal in death, and the sorrow of their mothers as well, whatever some propagandas may claim.

What's happening today to american soldiers has been predicted by many all over the world before this war began. I'm not happy with that — only stupid and/or mean people can be — but it is unfortunately the logical consequence of an irresponsible policy.

The only way to make this kind of operation legitimate is to act with a UN mandate. UN are obviously far from being a perfect organization, but they won't become a respected one until everybody — and the USA first — submit to them. As long as the US government will think and act the way it's been doing recently, it will only nourish war, despair and racism, giving the motherfuckers from the "other side" more ideological ammunitions to lead their infamous crusades.

In the end, all I see through this situation is a too well known logic : big bastards from all origins lying to their people with their mass propagandas in order to serve their dirty "ideals" — keeping the power and the wealth of the world for themselves at any price, a price they're too coward to pay themselves.

Those nasty powerful persons, christians, muslims, jews, hindus, whatever... (human filth knows no frontier) are so cynical that they almost always use the name of God to justify their nasty deeds. But they don't give a **** about God. All they serve is their own interest, all they care is to give their spiritual misery a spectacular enough alibi.

We, lucky people, have our cameras to oppose to all this spiritual misery. When they propagate hatred and ignorance with their fake Gods, our work is to propagate respect and knowledge with our peace weapon, our progressive weapon.

Our DVX.

This way we can be useful.

Re: Kidnappings

*sigh*

Anartiste,

That was well said and passionately spoken, and I agree with you on some points. But . . . no comment.

"Submit"?

Sigh . . .

I'm biting hard on my tongue and going over here to hang out with BLWolf.

Re: Kidnappings

I'd love to hear more than sighs on this thread my friends. A subject like this one sure deserves a less disdainful treatment. Should I be more inclined to generalization, I could easily make a parallel here (I'm only half teasing...)

In spite of what you might think, I'm a great lover of America — I just don't like its current Government which, in my very humble opinion, betrays the american ideals.

Re: Kidnappings

I really don't think you want me to unload. (No, you really don't, and I don't want to in this forum.) But in a spirit of DVX comradery, I'll reveal something behind one of my sighs . . .

No "American ideal" has ANYTHING to do with "submitting" to a foreign authority.

Re: Kidnappings

Just as the french Government is betraying the ideals of Republic in its own way.

Our democracies are ill.

Re: Kidnappings

The UN are no "foreign authority" ; they're an international one.

And they sit in New York City, USA.  ;)

Oh ! And of course, when talking about "submitting", I was talking about international policy, specifically oversea military operations — I have some thoughts about Bush administration's domestic policy as well, as I guess it influences its international strategy, but, being a foreigner, I won't have the impudence to reveal them here.

And... feel free anyone to criticize the french Government — foreign advices are welcome. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re: Kidnappings

I can discuss this subject without letting my patriotism get in the way and Anartiste has made some solid points;

Saddam was a bastard that needed to be taken care of. There is no doubt about this at all. I also think the Weapons of MD were a fabricated story but I do think Saddam was pursuing them. We did not find any but whos to say in the middle of the ****ing desert they are buried? Maybe, maybe not and for me to speculate on that fact would be, well, speculation.

The probelm I have with the UN is that they completely ignored the umpteen violations that were set down on Saddam (firing hundreds of times on American planes). I feel the US had no choice to go over the UN on this because they were not going to do anything but sit back and watch. They wanted more embargos that would serve only to hurt the Iraqi people, whom I might add Saddam didnt give a **** about. He surely wasnt affected by this method.

Someone had to do something and as usual it is the US. The hatred for the US is and will continue to grow and alot of that is just plain ole fashioned envy. We are the super power in military and economy.

I do not think that the US should submit to the UN. I think it was a good idea whose time has passed. Members include Cuba, Korea and China and personally, with the philosophy those countries have **** THEM.

While I feel sorry for the mothers of both sides I do not feel any pity for the enemy. The enemy? Anyone who wan't to hurt Amercans (civilian or military), American Interests or American soil.

I do not always agree with what Wasington is doing but do support their decisions on something I know nothing about and neither do any of us except what the press releases. Go to any press site around the world and there are conflicting stories that serve both sides.

Roger that.

And allow me to respectfully ask you, Anartiste, if it were the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe that were blown up instead of the Twin Towers and the U.S. Pentagon on 9/11, what would France have done beyond expecting the complete support of the U.S.A.?

We're still fighting the same war that came to the forefront of international attention when The United States was attacked on our own soil.

Re: Kidnappings

I have to agree with that take by the Wolfman. France is in NO position to do anything about anything. And that is a fact. IF the Eiffel Tower was the 9/11 Scene France would be begging for the US and Britain to step it up. That goes for the majority of countries out there.

The UN does sit in NYC but so do the Embassies of our enemy. What does that mean? Nothing.

I can't critisize the French government for they aren't really a factor.

Re: Kidnappings

My goal was definitely not to unleash such anger. My apologies for that. I don't want to drop more oil on the fire, so this will be my last post on this thread. I think I've said everything "necessary" already... except for a few last precisions.

On September 11, I cried. This mega-crime made me feel ashamed of being a human being. And I was one of those in my country who didn't think it was "their turn now" or shared any kind of these stupid opinions. I just cried for the victims, and the victims of the atrocities to come because of this atrocity.

As I said before, although I've never been to your country, I'm in love with it. I know my history lessons and I know how much we, French people, owe to the American people in the struggle against nazism. I also personally owe very much to the American artists ; some of them have made my voice what it is now (even if most of them were not real patriots during the Vietnam war, but that's another story...)

And, once again, I would very kindly recieve a major criticism against French social policy, French African policy, French handy blindness concerning human rights violations all around the globe (Tchetchenia, Algeria, China, etc.). In a word : against the French Government having forgotten the ideals of Republic forged 200 years ago, in Lafayette time ;) : Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité.

With all due respect, BLWolf, as far as I know, the Twin Towers tragedy was not a fact of war coming from Iraq, but from Afghanistan and I think to remember that, under the mandate of the United Nations, France participated in the military actions that followed without any hesitation.

I don't think the war in Iraq is really related to that. I maintain it has more to do with American economical interests (there are enormous oilfields in Iraq and the resources from the Arabic peninsula, mostly run by American companies, are slowly but surely getting dry), geopolitics (China will very soon become a huge petrol consumer — see : "economical interests") and ideology (the US foreign policy should not be under control of any "foreign" organization, was it called the United Nations) than with anti-terrorism.

I also think the Bush administration takes interest from September 11 to spread fear among its electorate, and amalgamates on purpose Islam and terrorism (i.e. all islamic countries are terrorist countries, subtext : any muslim is a potential terrorist) to hide the incredible failures of its domestic policy, all of these coloured by electoral reasons.

I very much enjoyed season 2 of "24". I think this was a fiction work that reflected well — although in a surrealistic way — the mass paranoia that a certain elite has interest to spread among the people. By the way, this elite is not American : it's ultra-capitalistic and international, but, as John Hudson said, USA come to be the leader of this ultra-capitalistic world, it makes sense if a good portion of this elite is American.

To conclude, I'll say (rather emphatically as usual) that if there's a war to lead, it's not one of a country against another, not one of a religion against another, and not even one of us "international little ones" against them "international big ones" (although this one is very tempting to me), but it's a spiritual one : discover the fascist in us, the sexist in us, the terrorist in us, the racist in us and understand the very intimate fears they're related to to better fight them.

Human nature is universal and it's gonna ruin the planet pretty soon if we don't make a deep inventory in our souls. American souls, French souls, Iraqi souls, Chinese souls, Israelian souls, Brazilian souls, Liechtensteiner souls.....................

Re: Kidnappings

Well said Anartiste. I think you speak from the heart and mind and I cannot argue anything you just said. For me, as an American, I can be quick on the draw whenever the Anti-American speak comes to play. I think alot of the tension can be attributed to the basic lack of support for the US & Britain in this scenario (France and Germany specifically; yet eager to lead the rebuilding team). I hate the world in it's current state and being a father of a 4 year old son it pains me to wonder what kind of world he will grow up in (it ain't looking good!).

We Americans are a proud bunch in a storied, albeit short history. We are proud to be a leader nation in tehnology, economy and military power and in being literally FREE to do anything we want. It's not perfect. We are still pissed off at our government for many issues and personally Im not into being the worlds police force. (You know, no one likes a cop until they need one..." but I wouldnt live anywhere else than here.

My perception of the countries of the world? "They're there when they need you."

What does all that mean? I'm sorry Anartiste: I really respect your humor, your keen observations, and your wisdom when it comes to cinema, but your political concepts are to my mind, whacho.

What do you really think is happening when people who are not Iraqis in Iraq kidnap Japanese journalists and threaten to burn them alive unless Japanese troops leave Iraq? Don't you GET it?

This is a war between Islamic militant Fundamentalism vs Everyone In The World. Everyone.

The trouble didn't start with the Hated President Bush. It started a lot longer ago, since America has been trying to mitigate Middle Eastern proclivities to escalate any given conflict to 'Jihad' status; at least 30 years.

America has made several blunders of foriegn policy in that time, but so what? Who hasn't? France, La Belle France, is not guiltless.

Too many people allow their disdain or naked hatred for Bush (whom I did not vote for) to cloud their understanding of the extensive consequences this Administration's actions shall have on the Middle East over the next 5 generations.

I'm sorry you are angry at our foriegn policy, but you must recognise that while Communism was the last century's greatest blight, that distinction unquestionably goes to Radical Islam in the last 30 years, and shows no sign of slacking.

As an American, I am not hurling anger at you or anyone else. I have, however, had about enough of that.

Re: Kidnappings

Sorry. I break my promise, but just to make things totally clear.

When I said — self-quoting here, sorry :
us "international little ones" against them "international big ones" (although this one is very tempting to me)
I hope you all understood I was talking about us  — individuals — against them — the powerful individuals of this planet, whatever their nationality or religion is. Hope nobody took it the wrong way...

That being said I now go back to the more peaceful realm of DVX and leave this thread to your wisdom.

Re: Kidnappings

2 Cents... coming out of my pocket... being placed on the counter in a loud "slapping noise"...

beat.

Alrighty: In my current work, I sit and view hundreds of hours of DV tape shot on the ground in Baghdad. I see the way it REALLY is. Not the way the hippie left media portrays it. I see the people of Iraq's THANKFULNESS, HOPE, HAPPINESS, and FUTURE they have now, that they didn't have before. We (THE USA) have made Iraq free, and given them a future. I reflect it to Hitler. He was a tyrant. We ousted him. We freed countries from his grip. We ousted Saddam. We freed Iraq. Funny thing is now, in this jacked up politically correct hippie world, everyone has a problem with it. Everyone is in a friggin tizzy instead of standing up for doing what's right.

Fact: In WWII, MILLIONS (yes MILLIONS AND MILLIONS) of people died. Soldiers AND civilians. It was war, and duh... that's part of it. So why in God's green earth is everyone griping about a handful now? If Fallujah is full of militant muslims out to attack and kill our soldiers, then by all means flatten it. I'm talkin tactical nuke, hit the button G-Dub! This isn't a time for holding hands and trying to fix the problem with paper. Look at how big of a joke the UN is. It's pathetic. Remember what Berlin looked like after WWII?

I digress...

Our current administration is the best we've had in a long time. (of course IMHO blah blah). He will STAND UP for what's right, and the only reason it's an issue, is because everyone else is whining about it. Everyone is attacking the man for doing what's right in the world. How corrupt is this society we live in...

In 60 years we've gone from a unified, proud, patriotic, american loving country, with everyone banding together AGAINST the ENEMY, to killing ourselves from the inside out by attacking our OWN LEADERS. Holy crap how stupid people are now. Sure, there may be differences on certain tax laws, yada yada... all petty in the scope of life. But, to gripe and complain about us being involved and freeing a country (and say it's because of oil and all that other complete BS), while our brothers (mine included) and sisters are over there in the 130 degree heat FIGHTING these moronic Islamics that want to kill us ALL, is the most disrespectful, blatant form of treason I've ever seen or heard of.

Screw Islam.

Rant over for now.
;D

Re: Kidnappings

Kai, that was a nice rant and I agree with you. Since when did it become wrong to root for the good guys? 8)

Re: Kidnappings

finally... someone actually responded! :)

... and about rooting for the good guys, I think that all changed since we're on course to be the next Roman Empire... (downfall & all)
