This is a short that is mostly a test for an upcoming project, but I figure tests can be entertaining as well. Shot it a little bit later than I wanted to at night so the iso is up to 1000. Hopefully it is still entertaining!

Whoa...David has issues. I guess he missed the obvious Lilo and Stitch reference. Your wife was perfect for the role.

Thanks for the comments! I am a little worried though about the disturbing comments, given that it was supposed to be funny, lol. Just real enough to be funny is what I told myself while working on the explosion effect. The effect was done entirely in after effects, and it used pre-keyed blood splatter that was then perspective shifted and duplicated about 15 times, for both the explosion itself and the aftermath. Regarding how to's and such in after effects I would recommend video copilot over all else, as they have taught me most everything I know in after effects at the moment. I would say the most important part of its realism though is the splatter that I added a gaussian blur to in order to make it seem like it was on the camera lens. Thanks again for the feedback, and I hope to hear even more.

wow that was awesome. Def should have either opened the shutter more or bumped the iso up even further cause its a bit underexposed.

Cool effect, in the walking shots you had some shake issues, might need to invest in some sort of steady cam if you plan on doing a lot of moving shots.

I wish i had after effects.

Yea, the slow kit lens was all the way open unfortunately, and I don't think I can stand the ISO any higher with the noise it introduces in conjunction with the kit lens. Damn that race against the sun setting at only 4:30 in the afternoon, lol.

I actually just gained access to a steady cam, but didn't have the time to use it as I had about 20 minutes of daylight to work with and getting the steady cam ready likely would have exhausted all that, but I agree it ended up being a bit too shaky. Thanks for the comment.

I think it's great, I just thought the girl's expressions were a bit much...didn't mean to offend at all.
What lenses are you using?

Oh, none taken. It was sort of meant to be a quick and dirty over the top thing, but a more subtle approach could possibly have been even better. Unfortunately only the kit lens at the moment. I am thinking long and hard about what glass to buy before I take the plunge on that. Intimidating when in many cases the lenses can cost more than the body! I would also note that this was filmed with the in camera setting for sharpness set all the way down, and in retrospect i think I would turn it to 1 or 2 to help sharpen the focus just a bit more.

The body explosion was stellar. Really, I don't think it could have looked any better in a million dollar production.

Second that. Stellar. Disturbingly stellar :)

No really. Great job. I'll be checking out Video Copilot for sure.
I'm assuming you used the techniques from "Lighting Strike"?

About 3 of them actually, but that one was clearly important
