It's very easy to create a substitute. Look at an existing lastclip.txt file, and you'll see that there's a number and MXF name of the last clip that got recorded; just substitute in the proper ones for your particular contents directory and it should work.
You know this stuff that I'm asking is pretty basic and easy to figure out? It puzzles me how I can get the hard stuff, but the easy stuff floats right over my head.
The only time the file is needed is when recording -- you shouldn't need it when working with the footage in post. I know Edius doesn't need the file, and I believe FCP doesn't either.
Just try copying a LASTCLIP.TXT file from another P2 card offload and see if FCP will import then, but I recall seeing someone mention that FCP doesn't need the file. I know for a fact that Edius doesn't because I tried it just for grins and giggles.
Exactly what are the symptoms you are seeing? Could it be that someone renamed a file or the CONTENTS folder, or that the checkbox to remove duplicate frames isn't set correctly? Do you get an error during the import, or do you not get that far?
Well, the editor goes to import the Contents from the Hard-Drive and FCP crashes. It's only doing it on a card or two. The thing I'm saying about continuous is because we had 4 cameras going that I had to manage for the night, all pretty much GUZZLING p2 cards.
So, I never got to even check the footage on break. It was all offloading as many cards as I could to get ready for another 45 minute run for four cameras in 720p/30pN.
It wasn't bad, just the card storage wasn't what I wanted at all.
That doesn't sound like something a missing or corrupted LASTCLIP.TXT file would cause.
I know you're using FCP to edit, but see if Edius will accept that material. If it does, you could use it to Print to P2, outputting to a folder instead of a physical P2 card.
