Here is a very basic quick unboxing video. No sample video yet, sorry I need to finish some other things first. I spent maybe 5 minutes on the unboxing video.

I bought this from Full Compass in Madison Wisconsin.
I hope to try it out and I want to compare it to my HMC150. Love the feel and handle of this camera so far.
Will keep you informed.

Here are some autofocus tests.

Very happy with the autofocus, face detection, low light handling, WiFi hook up to my Galaxy S4, but please Canon make a better app instead of web page.
The autofocus offers 3 settings, I am happy with just normal AF, or Med AF. I feel Instant AF snaps to quick for me on the subject, and I like more of a fade or transition between my subject when it focuses from near to far. You make your own choice depending on what feel and style you are going for.
I need to test out macro and also determine the shortest distance you can film something very close when zoomed out. I think for macro you want to be mostly at a wide angle, if not, it gets a little hard to focus.
Thumbs up so far on this camera.

If you want any special test , just let me know and I will try to find time in the week to do it.

Thanks for posting. I agree, the instant AF is too jarring. I would like to see this camera at 0 gain shooting the same semi-low light scene as the HMC-150 at 0 gain. I am looking at this camera to possibly shoot indoor sports and would like it to avoid needing gain where a camera like the HMC-150 would be 0 gain, open iris - but with good exposure. Thanks

Hi, great idea. I also use my HMC-150 most of the time and I hope the G30 will be a good B camera. So I will do some tests this week. I will do some low light tests, and color comparisons. I will try all auto and then also try your idea of 0 gain.

Thanks. I think it is important to take this level of camera out of auto becuase the manufacturers are using a large amount of noise reduction these days. The image stays "noise free" but goes soft in exchange. Forcing 0 gain shows where the camera really is in terms of light sensitivty and detail.

It looks good on my pc,but it would have been nice to see a vimeo download where the quality can be seen on a large screen tv,one thing i am interested in is if there is a noticable difference in quality between 28mbps avchd and mpeg 4.

Hi Flinty, I am curious too about the Mpeg4 and avchd. I hope to do some tests on the slo motion effect you can achieve with the mpeg 4. I do all my editing in Sony Vegas right now and working with avchd has no problem and looks good. I will have to try some examples with mpeg4. thanks for watching and will get back soon.

So your uploads so far were all shot in AVCHD? Did you record in 1080/24p or 1080/60p for your uploads?

Did you upload the original MTS file? Or did you render the video to something else, prior to uploading??

.

How do you like the new viewfinder on the G30? Do you feel that it is adequate? What is your opinion of its image quality?

Any problems focusing it? I've seen a couple of people complain that the sunshade is not substantial enough.
