Just ordered an XHA1

Okay, I had to share with the class this morning. I sold my XLH1 and just ordered an XHA1. Right now I"m "in between" cameras and it feels weird, like I just had a limb removed or something :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Anyway, I'm excited to get this new camera and a little sad to lose big hoss.

Congrats Steve. Normally I'd say how much you're going to love camera and the image it produces, but you already know all that.:)

You finally got your HD DVX. :) Congrats disjecta, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Have to say, given the choice between the A1 and H1 for casual shoots, the A1 would be what I reach for. It's just plain fun to use and certainly easier for stealth purposes too.

Bring on SpyBrats! ;)

Chris at ZGC. I don't order from anyone else at this stage. They are the absolute best in customer service.

i like your presets are you going to make another one just for A1. shooting in seattle has been gloomy so i am waiting for summer time so i can take it to alki and Mt rainer to see colors. </IMG>

Yeah, I'll probably mess around with some presets and share them.

Don't wait for summer, there are always things to shoot no matter what the weather or subject. Dont make excuses, make movies :)

Sharky, I'm still fascinated about the look you got in those long shots in particular. I can't remember, is this a look you developed in-camera or is it something in post like magic bullet. There's a dreamy quality to it that I really like....

Can you share more?

absolutly. Pretty much this is straight out of the camera. I don't remember the exact settings at the moment but the only thing I really changed was Cinegamma 1
Master P -9
Setup -3
Color +23

This was pretty much one of the first things I shot, so I took out my marshall, calibrated it, and then I setup these settings when at the location.

I also used a graduated ND to keep the sky and ground exposed correctly.

When I got home the only corrections made where a slight density correction with curves, other than that it's pretty much straight out of th camera. Hope this helps you out.

Sawra, what disjecta said, you don't have to wait for summer, I just did a quick shoot in Lincoln Park, a couple miles from Alki. Here's a link.

That is some great footage, probably one of the best image qualities I've seen on this board. Those mountains are amazing, and it was very nice how the sky and the people were both exposed correctly. Beautiful work man.

wow, what a beautiful shoots, It is great, that why i love this area you don't have go far to get some breath taking view. Did you shoot it in SD?

thanks for the comments. It was an especially beautiful day, so I can't take all the credit. It was shot in 1080 24F edited in a 108024P timeline and downconverted to 720P for web.

Love the footage, scharkey. What was the strength (f-stops) of the graduated ND you used?

Thanks,
Dan

Well, after much consideration, last Friday I finally decided to join the Canon XHA1 club. For so long I intended to get the HVX. I liked the tapeless workflow, but the P2s current capacity has not matured enough to justify its cost. I also like the HVX color space, but I didn't want to sacrifice resolution. I may be wrong in thinking this way, but I never understood or bought into this whole pixel shifting explanation. I'm sure it may be legitimate enough, but it all seemed like the wizard behind the curtain stuff. I tried hard to convince myself that the HVX was the camera for me, but ultimately the A1’s resolution advantage, gorgeous examples posted on the web and Adam Wilt’s review was enough justification to pull out the credit card and take the plunge. By the time the smoke cleared, I bought a XHA1, a Sachtler tripod, a Marshall VR70P HAD monitor, filter set, and a few other things.

Now I got find a way to tell my wife.

Welcome to the darkside! :)
Ditto... since (around ) 15 (!!) years ago when I sold my Sony Hi8 V5000...a long time ago (since the times when AudioVisuals wasn't born yet :D).

Just realize that the first shot is reversed, Scharky how accurate is that marshall monitor you have for focusing? Im thinking about getting one.

shhh, your not supposed to say anything about that first shot. I'm really happy with the Marshall. It's super sharp (for a 7in monitor it would be hard to cram more pixels into it) and with the focus assist you can see the full resolution for critical focusing. I would say it most definetly worth the price and a true must have for every A1 owner if you really want to see what you are shooting.
