I love tape. Tape is great. I had more problems in one day on set with my Cinedeck than 3 years of HDCAM tape.
There are so many reasons to shoot tape. We never had anyone completely lose footage with tape. Happens all the time with hard drives, either through drive failure, carelessness or both.
People just want instant gratification.
I am at least happy Sony have kept the quality of their tape. So many manufacturers in the move to tapeless have actually got stingier on their bitrates. DV tape used to be 25mbps, 20 years ago, now so many consumer cameras are 16mbps - WTF?
Bitrate is a huge issue with 4K delivery - just go and watch anything on YouTube in "4K". It'll look better in 1080P because they use half the bitrate to encode something a quarter the size - so you get twice as much bitrate "per pixel" (my terrible, unscientific, man maths)
