Just got a new camera - Sony F35

Just a note, ive noticed on the hyperdeck- because of the little DIN bnc- you have to either ziptie or tape down your bnc cable as bumping the cable can interrupt the signal lead to dropped frames, maybe just my experience but its what made me switch to a Samurai (which are cheap now BTW!)

...and if you're doing anything involving a mini BNC, make sure to carry at least one spare. They will break at an inconvenient moment.

Or go to Markertek and they will make you whatever you want. They made a nice double 90 for me, to the exact length I wanted, and it was priced really well.

If it is like any Sony product, the accepted voltage range is generally 11 - 17v. Below or above that, it will cut off to protect itself.

Ooof. If I had money just lying around I think I'd buy one. From everything I hear the images are lovely - and the shows I've seen shot on it don't disagree. Plus, anamorphics.

Just imagine what will be obselete and priced in this manner in seven years...

How do you record 4:3 anamorphic out of the D21 in 2014?

I've never used the D21, but my understanding is you'll need something that comprehends ArriRaw to record the 4:3 data signal from the D21. Not going to be as cheap or simple as a hyperdeck. But then again, there are a number of compatible options from the Codex to OB1 to Gemeni and O7Q that may be available used for reasonable prices.

Not something I'm exploring right now. Just interesting.

Not the only solution.

You can record "M-Scope Anamorphic" from the D-21, which basically outputs two signals, each containing half of the Anamorphic frame. This are then combined like a form of interlacing to produce your frame.

You can also do it via ARRIRAW as per Alexa.

SJX,

I suggest a new thread. If nothing else, it may help if others need this solution at a later date.

SJX already PMed me about this, and I wasn't able to solve it for him. I suggested that the Iris could be closed, and he's apparently checked that, and it isn't the problem.

Other possibilities - the viewfinder brightness and contrast may be worth checking.

SJX! I don't believe it, you got a F35!!

Have you pulled out the optical block? I turned on my F35 once after removing the optical block to see the exact same problem, all black, menus but no picture. Turns out the plug in the side of the optical block wasn't seated all the way. Remove the control panel of your F35 and look if these cables are all connected properly.

2 things to check:

1. HDSDI monitor, if this doesn't have picture either I would bet it's the optical block connection.

2. Take off the body cap and look into the sensor with the camera turned on. When you press black balance do you see the little iris door snap shut? You should be able to see into the sensor or if the iris is somehow stuck shut.

He's renting one, which is both fortunate and unfortunate. If there's really something wrong with it, at least he's not stuck with a bad unit, and hopefully will get his rental fee back, but sucks that he's getting a bad initial experience with the camera.

Yes been long time coming.

But frustating so far. :(

I didn't pull the block. I got it like this.

I tried open the side. Is it only the 4 screws on front? Is not coming off and don't want to force. Tried taking 4 other chrome screws off in bottom but wont come off still.
