Just got a new camera - Sony F35

Sparky,
You'll have to modify the ears on the F35 mount, not the RPZ. It's close to fitting, but rubs on the back of the lens. However, it's really close to fitting. I can get it to seat, but can't turn the lock.
Don't loose too much sleep. :2vrolijk_08:

Sorry to bother you again (it must feel you have gained a stalker!) but if I modified the ears on the F35 mount to allow the Red lens to fit, will that affect the camera so I'll have problems attaching other lenses in the future?

The Prolock Nikon to PL Mount adapter is only for the red I thought - where you take out the PL mount and put in their version of the nikon mount.

I think as said before on here, you can't just get an adapter that puts a nikon onto a pl mount adapter because of flange differences.

Drill, baby, drill.

I don't think the ProLock would work. On the modified ears, I don't think it would be enough to affect the functionality of it. I'll take a couple of pix for you asap so you can see what you're up against.
Anyone wanna buy my 17-50? It's an easier solution for me! ;-)

Since I'm seriously thinking about buying f35 (thanks for the inspiration!) I have a quick question.
What matte box system are you planning on using?
Can you use most of the old matte boxes for Arriflex, etc?

Bad News: Ruby 12-24 doesn't fit either. (along with RPZ 17-50)
Good News: I figured-out how to get them both to fit with minimal work.

Will explain and post some pix I took.

I wish I had some good stuff to show, I just did shots around the house with my family. I have two big projects coming up that I'm shooting f35 on, I will be posting stuff ASAP. If I can I'll try to whip up a skin tone demo in the mean time.

This is the F35 PL Mount. You can see that the tabs are large, but are held on only by two screws each. To the left of the top thumb-tab, there's a mechanical stop.
It's even more of an offender than the tabs since they are further outside the radius from the center.

You can see that a real lens like the Optimo, fits nicely without any issue.

You can see here, how the RPZ will not go as-is. It clears the PL-stop, but the back on the lens is too short to clear the tab. (look above the tab and see how it's hitting)

With all the tabs removed, and the stop still there, the RPZ fits. It took some finesse and the lock isn't too fun to turn w/o tabs, but it works. (I am going to remove the stop to see if it was interfering with the fitment)
It's not apparent in the pic, but it's locked. I also had to put a screw back in the lock-ring to give me enough grip to tighten and loosen it.

I am currently in the process of some new/revised tabs that are less intrusive and a new stop that is a reasonable size. I guess Sony's focus was on the nuclear-plasma sensor in it, not the mechanics.

More to come...

Don't do it. The temptation to kidnap someone for ransom money is already too great.

Don't worry. It seems all the cheaper F35s are now gone. The ones left are holding up at $14-18k.

I knew that once the initial over supply was gone and rental houses had gotten ridden of them, that the good deals would end. Now 14k is still a good deal. But the insane 7-8K seems to be over.

I don't think it's Sony's fault. Probably more like RED's fault. I'm sure that RED lens is a rehoused stills lens. Anyway, should be an easy fix. Just get slimmer tabs made.

No no no don't say it is so.

Sure it's Red's fault. The rehoused still lenses don't have to work with where the iris sits. So, it's difficult to do what they need to do.

Thanks for taking the time to post these great pictures and information - greatly appreciated. Does this mean that all I have to do to use my RED 17-50 is to remove the tabs, and then tighten the lock-ring again? Doesn't seem to bad a work around to fit the lens esp as it will probably sit on the camera for 90 percent of the time. Sparky
