GH2 Just got a GH2! This camera is just R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S !!

Do they have full matched sets or just odd lenses?

Rokinon and SLRmagic seem to be matching their sets. They do all have the same look to my eyes. But that's a good question to ask.

On a side note I got some pretty funny looks when I went outside today with the GH2 hanging from the back of the CP 50mm. :)

I know the feeling:

If so and if they have a nice range then they can be nice.

Hehehe.

By the way, do you also need class 10 cards with the GH2 and hack like for the AF100 slow motion, or will class 6 do just fine?

What size cards should I get to give me at least 1 hour of 24p recording at max. hack quality?

So nearly a gig per minute?

It depends on which GH2 patch you are using. Lee Powell's FlowMotion ver 2.02 is very popular, and it varies it's bit-rate ( up to 100 Mbit/sec in 24H mode ) depending on what the encoder needs to record the image. You can expect to record about 2 hours of footage on a 64 GB SDXC card using this patch.

Any card with a speed of 10 MB/sec and higher is a class 10 right?

Technically yes, but the true speed of the memory card varies from brand to brand. The SanDisk Extreme 95MB/sec SD cards benchmark at 70+ MB/sec which is far more than the Class 10 spec calls for.

I've been looking for a good low cost SD card that will reliably record with the FlowMotion patch at 100 Mbit/sec, which prompted this thread:

Card Tests : Patriot EP : 32GB SDHC Card / 64GB SDXC UHS-I

For commercial use I would just buy a pair of the 64GB SanDisk Extreme 95MB/sec SDXC UHS-I cards and be done with it. This will provide you with 4 hours of shooting time before you have to dump your cards.

If you have two cards lying around, why don't you go test them out instead of asking about it?

1. Cards are not lying around HERE.

2. My GH2 is not hacked. I need to go about on how to do it etc so can't test yet.

3: If you don't feel like answering, why bother not answering?

So the Sandisk Extreme 45MB/sec wont work with flowmotion? I have a couple lying around.

Very likely these cards will work just fine, but keep in mind that only cards that have a SDXC UHS-I memory controller will span at 100 Mbit/sec data-rates, which means your longest take on a non-spanning memory card is about 6 minutes using the FlowMotion v2.02 patch. ( it can be as short as 3 minutes with higher data-rate patches )

I have a couple of these as well, they work great. I'm not sure about Flowmotion, because I just bought two of the extreme pro's and have been using those. I know with one of the older hacks I pushed the card to its limit and hence had issues here and there. Sanity 5 worked great on it. So I'll bet Flowmotion will too.

What Gary is saying is that it won't hurt to give it a shot and let us know.

There seems to be a lot of different hacks. Is there some comparison table somewhere with differences, recommended shooting situations for each hack and that sort of thing?

As far as I know, nobody has cataloged and shot comparison tests of the different patches, so you really have to do your own tests, which can be pretty time consuming.

There are a few patch authors who have been in the game for a long time, and those were the patches that I have been using...

- Fall 2011 : mpgxsvcd 42 Mbps patch which works with almost any Class 6 card or better

- Spring 2012 : Driftwood Quantum 100 : 100 Mbps all I-FRAME patch which requires 64 GB SDXC UHS-I memory cards to span

- Summer 2012 : FlowMotion ver 2.02 patch which Lee Powell has optimized for recording motion and fine details, and being a variable bit rate patch it saves on card space.
( it also requires 64 GB SDXC UHS-I memory cards to span at 100 Mbits/sec )

...I plan on upgrading to the GH3 this Fall, so I will likely stick with FlowMotion 2.02 for my GH2.

Well, I'm honestly not interested in anything lower than 100Mbps. Not sure it would be worth the hassle.
Driftwood and Flowmotion are the ones I hear more often and I will probably go with one of them. I don't have the time to test all patches to make my own decisions.

Flowmotion seems to be simple enough, but Dirftwood seem to have a bazillion variations out there. Sedna, Quantum and about 2 million others.

Since you have used both, Flowmotion and Driftwood, could you elaborate a bit on both, as to why you changed to Flowmotion, if there's anything you still like better in Driftwood etc?

If Flowmotion is optimized for motion and fine detail, what is Driftwood optimized for?

Is Driftwood the absolute best with Flowmotion being the best compromise? That's the impression I get looking at their specs.

So far what I could find seems to indicate that Flowmotion is the easiest and most reliable to work with and Driftwood is risky and too unreliable for professional production. So I may be leaning towards Flowmotion as I need to use it on a professional environment and can't afford any hiccups.

If that matters any when recommending a hack, I'm only interested in recording the best 24fps 1080p I can. Not interested in 60p at all as I'm planning on getting the AF100 and I would think it would best the GH2 at slow motion 60fps 1080p recording even with the hacks. Also all my lenses are manual-focus lenses with manual apertures.

For me the important things are, in this order:

-Fine detail/raw detail. I shoot a lot of landscapes and cityscapes.
-Skin tones
-Motion. As I shoot a lot of landscapes, motion is very small in the frame and the shots are mainly smooth pans and tilts and slider shots.

But I absolutely need in camera playback to be able to check my shots on location, or at least playback from camera to an external monitor.

Regarding a comparison table I found this one but it doesn't seem to be up to date: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FJHdnA2UnBnSEY2WlpSWVZjUGdVRHc&hl=en_GB#gid=4

By the way, anybody know of any test or footage shot with the 14mm 2.5 lens? I'm searching vimeo for GH2 footage using the 14mm 2.5 but can't find any.

It's not just about Mbps , Sanity 5 has shown this. Amazing detail at very low Mbps which allows for more recording time per card. Personally Sanity 5 as of now is the best Hack for quality and insurance.

Bear in mind we have not all hacked and are very happy, have a look at DCs unhacked footage in the motion section,as good as any.

I know. But I want a hack. The macro blocking and sharpness improvement I have seen is enough to justify it for me. I have already decided I need a hack. Question is which one.

Its up to the individual, but i cant agree about the sharpness or blocking, footage has to be viewed on a good HD TV not VIMEO or YOUTUBE,god knows what this would look like on a 60" screen,i dont expect Dan will mind me useing as an example.http://vimeo.com/48768969#at=0

I don't judge footage watching it on vimeo. I always download the original 1080p files and watch it on my own screen.
Are you saying hacks can hurt the quality? Because if there's any improvement, regardless of how much, I'm in.

There are so many and i am not saying they hurt the quality, but that the standard 24mbps pq is fine and there can be problems involved with hacks, but its each to their own.
