Isn't it either 3/8" or 5/8"? 3/8" inner thread piece can be easily inserted to 5/8" thread.

Pearstone shockmount came with only 1/4" screw thread. I hate buying another adapter to make it working. ebay sells bunch of cheap shock mounts that r readily attachable to a boompole.

Getting close to source voice made dramatic difference. If possible, I wanna use a boompole with a mic stand. For ENG style, it will be on top of my rig.

I used my first time audio gears in hide and seek game. Input audio gain was at max. I pointed the shotgun mic to a closet. Hoping to catch giggling sound. My kids jumped out of the closet and shouted LOUD. Definitely not gonna do it again...

That'll learn ya.

Just received a couple of QR01. I took the inner screw out and inserted a hot shoe adapter. The hot shoe adapter's square base is non-conductive.

My friend is gonna help me drill a hole in Dual Pre's metal body. I wanna drill bottom and top and have QR01 on each side. A mic will be sitting on top of Dual Pre. A boompole can have QR01 baseplate, too. It benefits 1/4" shock mount.

This solution doesn't make sense for GH1, but it makes a whole lot of sense for GH2. AGC limit control & audio meter reading while recording. woohoo!

Two questions on the ART Dual USB Pre:

To connect it to my Canon all I need is a y-cable, dual 1/4" TRS male to single 1/8" TRS male. Is that right?

Second, if I want to connect my Rode VideoMic (not the new Pro version) to the ART all I need is a plug adaptor, 1/8" TRS female to 1/4" TRS male. Is that correct?

I'm guessing VMP will work fine with Dual Pre. I heard VMP is so hot that it needs to be toned down. Dual Pre can attenuate output signal up to 48dB.

I'm using AT875R mic that draws little voltage. I had to amplify input by 30dB and output by 10dB to get a good decent signal. It's been hours of operations, and the battery is still good. I heard H4n drains battery quickly. The manual says a new battery will last 50 hours. 20 hours when phantom powering. next time i shoot, i will turn it on throughout the entire session.

The only drawback of Dual Pre is that it's somewhat hard to do monitoring. Its headphones out is clean and noise less, but it clips before its main output. GH2's live audio metering will mitigate the issue, and I'm getting GH2 body today. Woohoo!!!

I use it on my laptop when playing music or game. If I can find a cheap 12V car charger, I might use it in my car. Hopefully that takes care of the burn-in process.

I actually have the older VideoMic, not the new pro version. And I'll be monitoring using Magic Lantern on myT2i.

I really like this preamp, but I'm not so happy w/ audio quality from GH2 in-camera recording.

Huge difference in audio quality between in-camera and laptop using the same preamp. Since most of audio recording is done in my small studio, the laptop is easily accessible. I can do dual audio recording and sync them after transcoding mts to prores. Actually... the sync task seems a whole lot less work than applying noise reduction and copying left channel to right channel.

For run-n-gun style, I will continue to use in-camera. 30+ battery hours w/ phantom power on. So good. Hopefully the future firmware disables AGC completely.

Hey Stonebat,

What do you think your run&gun audio set up will be? VMP +20 dB to Dual Pre to GH2 on audio 1?

Just got the same setup using an Oktave mic. Love the Dual Pre. And the Gh2's audio isn't too shabby. Not perfect, but I think it's good enough for most. Also recording on separate audio just in case.
