JieTu HMI

Richard's posted across the years that he won't do the ballasts separately due to service and warranty concerns. Pity though, I could imagine doing some good business with a 575/1200 ballast and some sort of adapter cable setup.

Still, you can get the 575 fresnel with the 575/1200 ballast for just over $2k...

boyadjy, how much did you end up buying it for?

Richard (if you find your way back in here) - i too would be interested in your ballasts (with my LTMs).

Hi Patryk,
I had too much work last two weeks...
It costed me something like USD 1400, including few import taxes.

Could you link to the specific sellers ebay profile? There's quite a few of those HMI copies and if you can vouch for that one, I'd rather take my chances on that over the others.

When I'm browsing the internet looking for reviews, I'm always glad to find informations I need.
So I just post this to help people looking for information on these HMI units.
Mine is still working which is not always a the case with chinese clones of famous brand names.
It works like a charm and provide real quality light (when using osram lamps).
I'll post some pictures in a few days showing the unit in action as I've just completed a nice project.

Great. I'd appreciate if you can discuss the other issues that were raised about ballast noise and the light color and how good it looks spotted in.

Regarding noise, it's fan noise. It's not loud noise but every serious sound engineer on set would tell you it's not usable when recording sound on stage. So what you definety need to ask the seller is a longer cable. I did. And it's no longer a problem.
Light color depends on the bulb. Provided chinese bulb is not reliable as it makes horrible high frequency buzz. Again, of you're shooting music video, all these issues are not real issues.
I've bought a reliable osram bulb. No buzz problem any more.
I can't tell you in scientific way regarding spot position with the fresnel lens. It's a true fresnel lens but I can't compare with Arri as i do not own one. It looks good to me.

Hi everyone,

The review continues as I plan to buy another piece of these HMI unit. I'm happy with the resukts so far.
i thought i might share again my experience with this unit as from what I read on the web, 99% of HMI's owners (and non-owners) tend to describe these low priced chinese units as a really bad choice.
Some examples using it :

And this commercial (currently working on / image is not final):

To me it's money well spent. I might add that I can afford to lose 1k on a shoot so i'm always willing to try new products known as alternatives to better well known brand.

Next to these cheap units I also use a 25 years old german HMI which is built like a tank, waiting for it to die one day. But it's sill working ! I can't make it die yet ah ah ah
