Jarred First Impressions- Finally

oh yeah.. these dudes are all on a platform.... these guys are all really short.. like 5' 6"... boon, the older guy camera right is the only other guy over 6'

Congrats - does this mean we're closing to being able to acheive Coppalla's dream of anyone (even a fat girl form Ohio) being able to make a 'real' film...

Or has that time fiinally come?

John

PS - Gosh I'm I glad I got out of film when I did.

Great report, Jarred. Would also love to hear more about the stuff you did for Munich (after all, I get to see the overseas version).

I finally got to see and use HVX yesterday at CSTB 2006. Missed NatExpo where they had it in November, but oh well... And it's all I expected it to be. DVX on steroids  I'm going back there today with my Powerbook, cuz they guys at Panasonic booth said I can download all of their footage from P2s to see it uncompressed at home.
$8290 for a camera + 2 4GB cards... come March

Waaah!

Jarred... you're in LA.

I was hoping to pick up some batteries from you and avoid shipping hassles.

Anyway I can still do that in Vancouver... from a wareehouse or something?

lol no.. im long gone from vancouver :(

that little thing under your name that says silver member... you can have it whatever you want... just let me know.

Very cool... I'd prefer my custom use name to read "long member"? or maybe "big member". Or as a last resort... "Head Janitor".

Thanks for the trivia, Jarred. Gotta run. Congrats on coming to LA and all your ongoing projects. Glad to see you kept your distance from Hollywood. Good call.
Hope to see you around at events.

Xl70e3 (difficult name!), did you try the Pal model? How did it look?

That's why I use it - it's always free and I don't have to resort to stuff like Vic173 :cheesy: But there's sig to make it easier for others...

About the cam. It actually was an NTSC model. No PAL units here yet. They're said to start shipping next month.

Thanks, Vic :). I was just hoping for some input on a demo Pal machine to see if there where any improvements, differences... Anyway, for all the dvxusers out there that tried the ntsc version of the HVX, please post your toughts on the Pal machine compared to it! (when it is available, of course)

Great report Jarred  Sounds like some really heavy work for the HVX. I can't wait to see Munich when it comes out here, it looks really good (from the previews).

The weight of the camera is also very nice.. its not too heavy, but not too light. Steadicam guys are gonna love this thing.

That's great to hear, and what I was expecting. I can't wait to give this thing a go! I can only imagine how sweet it will be on the Flyer.
... Jan, can you lend a HVX to Tiffen/Steadicam for NAB?

It allways makes owners of a camcorder glad if they read about such storry. It feels good to own the same equipment but I don't think Mr. Spielberg did have a clue about use of equipment. He just gave the CG company what he wanted and they hade to deliver it within the budget they had. They choosed HVX because it was a cost effective solution but I don't think the picture made with HVX is so big in the composition. Btw because it is a biger production the CG company has the equipment to clean up the picture if it had noise in it. And because it isn't in the US v. only in the european than I guess it is only a few seconds we are talking about.

It would be nice to see a few frames of the final composition.

Great projects!!
Pick-ups for features!! Right up my alley.
Do you think Panasonic will use
the footage of the Munich insert at NAB??

awesome. just awesome. congratulations on the gig jarred! just curious, how were you able to find a gig like this?

I really appreciate your report - I am interested in your work flow - how did you format the P2 cards on the laptop - were you using a Mac of PC? I have yet to discover how to format the cards on the Mac. Thanks again for your report.
