Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

Just got my first intervalometer & filterholder to use with the Isco :)

First timelapse: http://vimeo.com/12983828

Funny thing is, I totally forgot the 5d2 shoots 4:3 in still mode. So the Isco turns it only into a 16:9 and so I still needed to crop to 2.35:1 to get that widescreen ratio which I am now used to for video.

EDIT:

It's 3:2 in stills mode, not 4:3.

I like the size of the jpeg-small & medium, a bit bigger than HD 1920, and gives me a lot of room for digital pans.

EDIT:

would this be correct? ..

An 1.5x anamorphic turns a still 3:2 image into a 2.25:1 ration correct??

2784 x 1237 = a 2.25:1 ratio ...calculated by dividing the original vertical (1856) by 1.5 squeeze = 1856/1.5 = 2.25

then divide the 1080/2.25 = 853

resulting into a 1920 x 853 image...

correct me if i am wrong, but this is roughly the correct ratio after squeezing a 3:2 image, yes? (give or take some, as I know some people like it a tad skinnier and is objective. ie" only squeezing theie 16:9 image + Isco to a 2.35:1).

i was checking through register.com and noticed that iscorama.com was free. LOL
What the heck I got it. http://iscorama.com/ . Perhaps we can all pool that freaking 3 years of forum knowledge into it . I am open to sharing authorship for this blog.
anyway here's the little mod - or rather lossening of a screw to allow the iscorama to focus closer without diopters.

Nice! An actual website with blog, pics, videos, info & mods of Iscorama lenses would be a goldmine! :)

Absolutely none out there.

Just received the Iscomorphot I won on ebay for my brother today. Played with it a little and took a few snaps :))

My brother's new anamorphic set-up/rig: GH13 + Voigtlander 40/1.4 + Iscomorphot 8 1.5x

Beauteeeful, aint she? The lightest, most inexpensive & most capable anamorphic rig for only under $1500 ;)

Anyone know how to take apart or remove the front focus part off of the Isco (Isco 42 same as 36?)?

Thinking about doing a little diy polishing off of the MC. Did a lot of research, and many were successful polishing off MC off of Leica and other lenses, using cotton balls, an hour of elbow grease & a mild polishing compound (Simichrome, Wenol, Pond's Cold Cream, Flitz polish, Mothers mag & aluminum polishing, Brasso, bon ami, other glass polishers/cerium ozide based).

I know, kinda risky & ballsy.. i'm just thinkin about it

Anyone have experience with araxfoto.com in Ukraine for repairs? I researched they are pretty good and inexpensive as well for lens polishing ($30-$50 per side versus $100 per side at Focal Lens Point). Also read though that they no longer offer polishing/coating anymore; I don't know if this is true still.

Also read that a chap by the name of Malcolm Taylor in the UK is a legend in lens and optics repair and did work for Leica museum. THough he has no working email addy I can find and I read that he only will inquire by phone (trying to sort out my cell to call there).

If any one else knows of specialty shops or people that does lens element polishing, please share. (I am in the US, but will ship international if need be and reputable shop)

so....

i just adapted my isco to a canon 50m 1.4

what im looking to do now is get a few longer focal lengths...anyone have any luck slapping an insco on anything longer then a 70ish lens? and what lenses did you use?

Not much use in only a single focal length anamorphic...you gotta at least have two...one for wides and one for closeups.

anyone?

Many of them are good and will work, 85mm, 90mm, 100mm, 135mm, Leica R, Olympus Zuiko OM, Nikkor Ais, Canon EF or FD, Zeiss ZE, Zeiss Contax C/Y Mount, Takumar, Helios, Etc, etc... take your pick.

Personally, I tried the Contax 100/2, Zeiss ZE 85/1.4, and lastly the Canon 90mm TSE on my Isco 42. So far, I like the TSE the most as it is very versatile, just lacks speed. That's what my ZE 50/1.4 is for anyways :D

lol tilt shifting an anamorphic lens

Hehe, why not, right? My favorite lens was my old 45 TSE (which I sold before my ana craze). I have been missing it, then I saw this video, http://vimeo.com/6081756. I figured it would work and I was still on the hunt for a mild-tele (85mm-100mm range) that had to be relatively light, not too physically long, small size front filter threads, metal threads, metal build MF lens, and the 90 TSE was perfect.

My old Contax 100/2 was too long, big and heavy and sagged/drooped too much with the contax-eos soft aluminum adapter and also had a lot of play when focusing with the Isco in front.

And, my recent past ZE 85/1.4, although short, had too big a front filter size (72mm); it worked with my Isco 42, but I noticed a lot of light loss because the front element on the ZE 85 was almost twice as big as the rear element of the Isco 42, which probably acted as a funnel or aperture in itself closing any light from entering and probably making it more like a f/2-2.2 lens. It is perfectly usable, but I plan on trading my 42 for a non-MC 36 (more fllaares! :) ), and I really doubt the Isco 36 and a huge ZE 85/1.4 will work any better, probably be worse in light-loss with the smaller 36mm rear element if anything.

just some standard stuff, went out and got some interesting shots for the YouTube Life in a Day project. Nothing too fancy but it's Iscorama footage.
