Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

There was a nice Iscorama on Ebay lately, sold for 1,326$ which is sadly the fair price nowdays, but if you take a look to the bid history, you can see that the auction was ended at "17:39:40" and there was a bid at "17:39:32"...

But the winning last bid was at "16:06:28" ! What the hell, way before the closing time! How is this possible?

That's how ebay works? You enter your highest bid whenever and if otther bidders don't beat your highest bid then they don't win.

$1326 for a broken one with lens seperation...wow

..the 36 that ended right before that was in good condition, but ended at $2500ish.

..another one on there at the moment in good condition...lets see where it ends.

Anybody thinking what I'm thinking re this new voigtlander 0.95 lens as a taking lens on my Iscorama direct to my GH1. My Isco does not vignette with a Nikkor 28mm so this could be my dream lens (but pricey) for shooting the night footage I'm planning for a micro feature.
Filter size is 52mm, step rings should get it adapted.

hey fooddude, would you know if a 49mm thread .50 close up diopter would work with the step rings between the taking lens and the Iscorama instead of buying a 72mm .5 diopter?

^^

I don't think so, since one focuses with only the Iscorama. What's wrong with the 72mm filter? It would be much easier to use anyways (if a diopter in b/n lenses would work), since it is in front and easily taken off and on. redstan54 on ebay has very nice ones at a very inexpensive price. We are lucky to still have them available. WIth my Isco 42, I need a 82>72 step down to make it work though. I gues the same for an Isco 54 (enough rings to make the front 95>72). Isco 36 is already perfect at 72mm.

yep thanks FD, will order from him this week. I found a used .30 close up diopter in a 49mm thread so that was the reason but Redstans are .40 and 72mm.

Had my Isco for a few months with Nikkors and can only seem to focus with the taking Nikkor lenses with the Isco at infinity. Heretical I know but hey it works for me.

If Hasbro produced a Grindhouse film about water guns, this might be what it would look like. (Iscorama 36)

There would be a seriuos bussines in making a high quality (better than LA-7200) anamorphic attachment around 1000$..

Finally got around to shooting some footage on my 5D and 16mm Isco.

Question, why don't I get stretched blue flairs? The anamorphic is on a 1.4 50mm.

@FoodDude - Aaaaaah, I see. Which lenses in the $300 and less range are NOT multi-coated?

@Paul Nordin - Kitteh no like you ;-)

The new Voigtlander should be awesome - but at least from my experience using the LA7200 adapter, shooting at f/.95 is going to be a no-go - I haven't seen any adapters or even one-piece anamorphic lenses that let you shoot with an aperture that fast - seems like f/2 (absolute minimum) - and really f/2.8 (can be pretty sharp at f/2.8 depending on the sharpness of the lens and the focal length) is about the minimum aperture for getting decent sharpness when working with anamorphics, and you have to stop down further as focal length increases. I can *nearly* use my Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 L @1.4 with the LA7200 adapter but it's still way--waaaay too soft and blurry. I believe the iscoramas are a bit sharper than the Panny adapter but I think the same issue with regards to shooting wide open is present on a very fast lens.

The Voigtlander should be a great lens otherwise though and if you don't have something in that range, still probably a good choice.

There are some Voigtlanders made in Leica M mount that you can buy new in single-coated versions, the cheapest is about $450 new, I think - or you can buy some really old 35mm SLR lenses - some early Canon FLs (work on the FD adapters) are single-coated, I believe. Just keep in mind that while anamorphic flares are really nice, working with these lenses is a challenge because you don't want flare all the time and so you're going to need a decent mattebox in order to have enough control to get flares when you want them, and no flares when you don't want them.

My old Iscorama 42 MC was sharp as tacks wide open at 1.4 (a 50 and 85) and also any other lens I used wide open... soon getting an Iscorama non-36 (replaced the 42), ill see if its' as good, but already read the smaller 36 models are sharper than the 42 & 54.

As for non-MC anamorphics... The Iscorama non-36 (serial number version) is 100% non-MC. All the 42's ive seen are MC. Isco 54 I've seen in both non-MC and MC versions. Isco 36 comes in single coating (no MC marking but still had blue/purple/green/magenta light reflections on glass), MC and non-MC; but the non-MC versions would be very rare.

The tiny Iscomorphot 8/1.5 is non-MC..as well as other mini-anas (Agfa, etc.)

I think Kowas are all non-MC. Some Sankors come in MC from what i've seen.

Safest way to tell on other brands is just look for a rainbow, colorful, or blue/purple/gree/magenta on the glass's light reflections = MC... But, if it appears totally clear, neutral and color free, then it's non-MC.
