Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

I'm pretty crazy, but not THAT crazy. I'll slap on a video camera Anamorphic adapter and make an oval cut out for the back of the lens before I do that.

Hehehe

Well, here's to hoping that CBS' guy has stock.
Yes, wait for more a few days. Probably you'll pay less than a half for a new lens. The guy didn't say if they have stock of the old or late model. That ebay lens was an old lens. Perhaps not even coated. Old lenses are not good for modern digital sensors.

I just bought some cavision rods from a dvxuser in japan. I cut up the box they came in to make a hood for my LCD monitor.....it fits perfectly. Now I just need to cover it in duct tape for the pro look hehe. Maybe I should make a cardboard mattebox and save myself $800.

I can't believe that lens went for $911.
I think somebody deliberately splashed it with no intent to pay, in which case the seller will probably go back and accomodate the 2nd bidder.
So, the lens still probably sold for well over $500.
That lens really shouldn't sell for beyond $450 and that's while acknowledging the lens' rarity.
However, when some people get to thinking it's their only opportunity to own the lens, they can go to great extents, ultimately justifying it by assuming it's resell value will increase over time as if it matured like a fine wine.
I'm really looking forward to CBS' source coming through.
That guy will catch on soon enough once people swarm him with offers.
If not before then by simply googling and discovering this thread, he'll know there's a renewed market and that the lens is being hunted.
It's funny, I always wanted an anamorphic lens set, but hadn't felt so compelled to get just one until Rich made this post and everyone started getting involved.

The panasonic adapters sell for over $500 second hand and $700+ new, the isco is sharper so it is worth a bit more. Up until recently gokevin had 2 or 3 of them selling for somewhere around $700 I think. $700-$900 isn't that much for a good quality lens especially an anamorphic one.

Understood, but in this particular case with the lens that was auctioned on Ebay, it had that misaligned blade, and what appeared to be some pretty serious wear.
Though the glass was still really clean, but as I think CBS noted, it was an older non-coated version of the lens as well, so that's why I think the lens shouldn't have cost so much. However, to each their own, it's valued more by some than others that's for sure.

yeah.. you've nailed it

Yeah I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a less than mint one. $500 is about my limit on any lens.

I don't know how many units the Isco rep has available exactly, but he responded to an email that I sent this weekend trying to know something more. He doesn't know for sure how many units. Only when the partner will return of vacations they will know. But in system the price (NEW) is 450.00. This information I can confirm. It is written in his email. And he confirmed that's the price I will pay.

As soon as I know, they have several units in stock, old stock. Confirmed in the same email too. But details, number available etc are with the partner in holidays. He had said before they have had old stock for years. To them, it is odd this interest in this weird glass.

Hehe well we're a bunch of odd weirdo's. I wouldn't mind a brand new one especially a multicoated one. What country is this stock located in?

I would have thought it being the older non-coated version - you would end up with more flare and glare and various light issues ?

ie: the very thing that makes these lenses look so nice !?

If my thinking is not too faulty on this - I would actually choose an un-coated version if I had the choice.

Cool that you took the time to gif Rich's sample to emphasize your point, and I think you may be right - assuming Rich's lens is uncoated.
Are there any side by side comparisons? I'd really like to know how big of a difference there is between the two, because I am of the same opinion that the flares do define the unique character of the lens.

Yep, good point, his lens maybe coated (?) - either way it's the light artefacts that make this lens so appealing - to me at least.

Once this is the last post of this page, I left my post for next page -- follow it up there please.

Thanks,
E. :-)
