Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

Yes people are still paying those prices. There are two on ebay right now, with one at €350 with well over a week to go. They have been going for more than €1,000 of late.

I was lucky to get an Isco 36 a while back and I think it's great. But probably not €1,000 great. It does make your footage look more filmic and I find it's a pleasure to shoot with. I guess it's up to each individual to decide if it's worth it for them.

Don't forget that the Kowa 8Z is a good option too. Having owned both, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it gives the Isco a run for its money, but it's the next best thing without a doubt. And if you're not prepared to shell out what I consider to be a small fortune (although there are many who have no qualms about dropping one or two grand on a lens) on an Isco then it might be possible to pick up a Kowa 16-H / 8Z for a hell of a lot less.

Incidentally, an Isco 36 on a Tair 11a here:

If there are any still floating around, I'd like to buy - can and will pay. Please PM.

P.S. Reading though 65 pages in one day! *whew!*

Hey Philip, how did you get on with the 2005? I was wondering, if you're using it on a 5d with a nikon>canon adapter, how do you make sure it ends up horizontal? There is no adjuster on the 2005 like on the 36 is there?

I bought it! It´s a very rare 35mm Iscorama Lens which complete my selection to the isco 42 adapter now. (The 42 works only on 50mm < without a vignette). Last Year someone did sell the same Lens in the US for 3000$.

Best regards, Philip

Attention! Iscorama 36 mirror hangs on M42 Adapter

Attention! Iscorama 36 mirror hangs on M42 Adapter

Attention! Iscorama 36 mirror hangs on M42 Adapter!

Yesterday i mounted the Iscorama 50 (Iscorama 36 Frontelement with Iscorama M42 back unit) with an M42 adapter on my Canon 5dmkII

The mirror hangs after turning down on one third of image hight.

Fortunately nothing happend to the system.

So i will go on using the Isco with Nikkor 50/1.8 and Nikkor 200/4 as back element.

It would be nice if there is a possibility to hold the mirror up all time (Magic Lantern?) or totally remove the Mirror???

Then it would also be possible to mount the great Leica M Wideangle Lenses which beat every SLR Wideangel for distortion.

Viele Grüße

I lost my iscorama 42 for 2 weeks while on film production as an art director, and by sure luck I found it back in a ballon shop. I was so happy I treated the setup to a rail rig to hold all the elementals inline since the 42 is so heavy it's causing my poor 85mm 1.4 to pull the screws and bend it. I am also waiting for a set of series 9 to 4X4 adaptors to hold tiffen series 9 diopters (got +0.5 all the way to +4), for quick swapping of diopters. screwing adaptors is just not practical. and yes the LCDVF is sweet (if only i had a anamorphic adaptor for that. LOL

I saw your video last night on vimeo and I loved those clips!

It's too short - I want to see more from that shoot..... maybe it's the retro music!

Here is a curious question: Will an MC lens mounted on an ISCO 36 eliminate (or at least partially) the flares which are being created by the front lens itself? If so is it then not wiser to search for older generation lenses if you want to keep those flares and artifacts?

Possibly, but the Iscorama flares just fine even with when mounted on a multi-coated lens like the Nikon 50mm - f/1.8 . . . . .although it did flare like mad on my older Nikon 50mm - f/1.2 (which from simply looking at the lens I suspect is either less well coated or not at all).

A more important issue is finding lenses that fit the shape of the rear protruding element of the Iscorama - the Nikon 50mm - f/1.8 is so nearly perfect that it is almost as if it was designed specifically for the Iscorama. And as this combination already flares so nicely, even with it's MC, there is probably little reason to trade off the near perfect fit and vignette free optical path for even more flaring.

Probably . . . (?)

Your Iscorama and several Sankor/Kowa i tried all flare warmer than the bluish streaks from the Optex and Panasonic adapters.
Can anyone share their findings about such color artefacts on their own gear so we'd know what to expect ?

I emailed to GENUS, if they have options for seires 9 and other types of filters for the mattebox but got ZERO reply except for some auto reply. after 2 days of waiting I decided to just DIY it.
i got a friend to fabricate 4x4 adaptors to fit my series 9 and "P" filters and diopters. Used his laser cutter. No more screwing on and off for me. Will give it a test tomorrow and feedback to you guys how it works in the field.

left is singh ray gold blue "P" filter and right is tiffen +1 diopter series 9
Now I have to get that precious 0.5 diopter series 9 away from the screw ring which I hacked togather with silicon. DANG!

just a quick test of the rig handheld with the diopters
i think i need multiple trays not practical to change diopters with a single tray.

Hello everyone,

I am selling my Isco 36 with a step down ring and a 50mm F2 Nikon. The setup is perfect and ready to go. I'm selling because I have another identical set. I bought all of this from a very reputable collector in Germany. Only thing you will need is a Nikon to Canon Eos lens adapter, which are very cheap. Please email for price & pics since I don't want to violate forums rules. You can see the stuff I have shot on Vimeo, do a search for Oscarwao. my email is hectorbatista@gmail.com

Thanks

that's interesting. I have the back end of an isco 50mm lens (without the 36, but with a 42) and an eos>42 adapter. No mirror issues. Perhaps your adapter is a little too shallow?
