Is Vimeo the Way?

They're not fake but they certainly are misleading. I watched both "I Hate You" and "Letting Go" and I thought the camera work was horrible. Bad motion, vignetting. You even made it intentionally bad, with the extreme shaking. I would hardly call that accomplished and brilliant. I can't say anything about your narrative style because I was so turned off by the camera work/lighting that I couldn't get into it. I respect your determination and outlook, but to me it seems that you are putting too much work into creating a presence for yourself, compensating for your lack of substance. You're real quick to throw out "film producer" and "director" and "distribution company," when really it seems like you are putting together a few "films" with your friends and selling dvds out of your basement. I fund my own work. I go to B and H and I buy gaff tape and I pick up lenses but I don't call myself a "film producer" just for putting money into it.

All in all, marketing has a limit. When you do your job right, you market yourself to put your work at the top of the pack with that of the other guys who did their job right. You can't use marketing to compensate for production/substance. I think youtube channels and youtube profiting provide a false sense of security and a certain comfort zone that skews your own outlook. But overall, if that's what you want, that works. Not everyone has the drive/need to take it further, and it's great that there are options for everyone's level in terms of upload sites.

It's okay. I still love you.

You upload as whatever resolution you want. This file is what can be downloaded by other users. This download option will not be available from the embed location. Only the main vimeo page of your video. If you want it to be a small window, upload it as a small frame size.

The quality is perfect. I haven't noticed any flaws in uploading. The main thing is that you have to make sure you are compressing it correctly with mpeg4 out of your editing platform so that you aren't selling yourself short. Other than that, vimeo doesn't do anything to compromise it. It doesn't display 1080p fully and it will always look better on a tv, but there is no deal breaker there.

Judge for yourself here:

Interesting to see the lack of ability to click through to Vimeo (from your Pro account I assume)

The images quality looks great

But it still runs in a choppy manner on my computer - because I have a rubbish connection to the web

Having that rubbish connection to the web (as might my clients), I prefer to wait while the file builds than then press play - does vimeo make this intuitive ? not to me

No they don't, but they should. Even with non-rubbish connections, the load time can be very slow.

Doesn't it work like virtually every other player (Youtube, Exposure Room)? Press play to begin loading the movie and playing as soon as it has buffered a little. Press pause to let it buffer as much as you want. Press play once it has.

While playing there is a colored bar that displays current position and a grey bar that displays loaded position...pretty simple, or am I missing something?
