Is this a shutter speed problem?

I shot with my A1 for the first time and love the results. Still lots to learn. One thing I noticed was when shooting in 24f, 1/48 shutter all stationary objects appear 'jittery' when panning. When the camera is stationary everything looks great, but not when the shot is in motion. And when the camera is stationary, moving subjects (10mph +) appear jittery.

This is especially evident on vertical subjects. I was filming a tall bridge with vertical supports and when panning left to right, the supports were very jittery.

My jittery, I mean they appear to slightly move back and forth and are far from having clear solid edges.

When shooting in 60i 1/120 this problem is elminated entirely.

So is this just a case of my shuttter speed being too low?

welcome ot the world of 24 fps. film cameras suffer from the same problem.

the rule of thumb is, when completely wide, chose your panning speed so that things take approximately 7 seconds to cross the frame. Any faster and you will get what is called, the strobing effect that is native with any medium that shoots at 24fps. Panning faster, while using the strobing effect is simply that, an effect.

And no, the shutter speed was not too low. If you go higher it will probably be worse. You need a slow hand in 24f.
