Is the Red Rock DSLR Field Cinema Deluxe Bundle v2 well designed?

I'm in the market for a Red Rock DSLR Field Cinema Deluxe Bundle v2 AND external monitor, and I just want to make sure I'm spending close to $3,000 wisely.

I stumbled upon this brief Flikr discussion about this rig, and someone made the following comment:

"everything other than the monitor is mounted on the wrong side - all of the controls for these DSLR's are on the right hand side of the cam. so that's where you need to mount your follow focus wheel (on the right hand side) so you aren't constantly switching hands on the shoulder mount. the way it's set up now, the FF is in the way of the monitor and you have to switch hands from the shoulder mount in order to interface with the cam. move the audio gear to the top and put your FF wheel on the right side. then your left hand is dominant and supports the rig 100% of the time, uninterrupted and your right hand is free to use FF or cam controls instantly."

Can anyone with experience comment on whether this is a real design flaw with this RR system?

Thanks,
Mike

Never used that rig but I think it would be much easier to have the FF on the left side and have your RIGHT hand primarily supporting the rig.
(sure doesn't look like the the FF is in the way of the monitor to me????) Maybe the guy that posted is a lefty....

I shoot with the Field Cinema Bundle myself, as well as sell countless of the units at our store, and all I can say is that that comment is a little "backwards". The great thing about the follow focus being on the left side is that you can support the rig with both your hands, while simultaneous pulling focus. The way I do this is by rotating the left handgrip slightly up (towards myself, or counter clockwise) so that I can rest my palm on the grip and control the follow focus with my thumb, index, and middle finger. I love this method, as well as %99.8 of customers I show (wish I had a photo).

Essentially, if the guy was a lefty, than the whole unit can be swapped onto his left shoulder. But the great thing about the Redrock stuff is that if he really wanted to, he could actually rotate the follow focus to the right side and rotate the gear box, making me think he's never actually used the rig.

He's not being specific to this particular rig, he's talking about the button/control placement on the DSLR body being on the right hand side so to avoid shifting all the time everything else should be on the right hand side...... which unless you're a lefty, is stupid.

Once you put a viewfinder on the back of the camera you will find out how even more stupid the whole thing is. As it blocks the left hand, you have to do a 2 hand dance with your rig. Thus the convenience of some sort of infrared start/stop work around.
