Is the CION ever going to ship?

Some vegan pads might be available...
Suede is just the cover, is it not? Inside the pad is some type of a filler?

The surface of most materials can be "roughed up" to make it less likely to slide off the shoulder. The NFL licensed products use some sort of a special material to improve the grip of the backyard players.

Off a sports page -

Terry Welch still grimaces at the memory: a slippery football squirting out of the Green Bay Packers' hands no fewer than six times during a 17-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on a rainy Monday night ... And as the owner of a Milwaukee company that makes finishes for leather used in shoes, purses and footballs, he did something about it: He instructed his research labs to create a treatment that would allow pebbled football cowhide to keep a better grip, even in the rain.

Today, that "Tacky Top" formula permeates the leather in National Football League game balls....

They show off their latest development by dousing a suede boot with paint, then salad dressing, followed by transmission fluid and Bloody Mary mix. The new waterproof finish will be sold around the world in a new venture with 3M Corp...

I would be interested to know which EVF those that have or have bought Cion are using. It appears to me that the illustrations show an 800x480 Cineroid on the camera but I could be wrong. Not sure it would be my choice. I would also like to see some footage other than what has been posted by AJA or been around for a while.
Thanks

Yeh Steve,
Certainly not very encouraging with all the buzz around the F7 and rumours about a new Canon. Guess we will all wait and see how sales go as well. It would be naive to think about buying the camea if it does not sell well with resale values being another major topic and consideration we all have to deal with these days.
I still haven't heard anything, anywhere from anyone has has actually bought one!

I am using the Alphatron, which has been great. All my footage is really boring test stuff, so far. I'm shooting a "short" with a couple of actors and a very minimal crew this Saturday, trying to get all this stuff in - interior, ext, night day, even some car stuff for motion. I'm trying to put something together quickly, in a day, to use what I've learned. Hopefully it'll be something better to watch than me or my wife holding a slate ;)

We're recommending the Alphatron....partly because it is good and it's pretty much the only one that has SDI....our demo arrived here at EVS last week and we're doing some testing to find out what it does...so far, very nice but the native ISO is 340 and the max is 800 so you will need a good amount of light to get to the optimal area of the camera.

Jon, has AJA considered a MFT lens mount option for the Cion? It's probably the most adaptable mount out there. It would allow customers to easily change lens systems according to their budgets and needs.

Unfortunately, a Micro Four Thirds lens mount would not offer sufficient sensor coverage. To accommodate different lenses, the entire lens mount on CION may be swapped out for an alternative choice from a third party company. One cost effective choice would be to choose a Nikon mount for CION and then pair it with older manual aperture Nikon lenses. Another possible choice would be to obtain a Canon EF lens mount (without the electronic aperture control) and then use some of the newer manual aperture EF mount lenses.

I hope this information is helpful,

Actually Jon, a MFT mount itself does not impede upon the APS-C sized sensor. (A MFT lens though, wouldn't cover that sensor.) Check out the specs of the upcoming JVC GY-LS300. It uses the MFT mount and that camera has a Super 35 sized sensor. That sensor is larger than APS-C. The MFT mount is readily adaptable to PL, Canon, Nikon...etc. The beauty is; all those 'MFT to XXX' adapters are already available through 3rd party manufacturers. Shoot with Canon EF lenses today and tomorrow, Compact Primes! I think that's why JVC went that route. No other mount has that flexibilty. Just a thought...

How is a MFT mount more flexible than for example E-mount? It has an even shorter flange focal distance so it's more flexible for adapters and there are actually APS-C lenses available in E-mount.

But like Jon tried to tell you there is no need for it because the Cion has an exchangeable mount. This is a great feature in the Cion actually. An exchangeable mount is the right way to do it, not a flimsy adapter stuck to a weak still lens mount. An adapter is more ghetto, exchangeable mount is the more professional way. But even though it is the correct, more robust and technically superior way people will always complain because people always want to cheap out.

Jon, the exchangeable mount is genius!

Agreed definitey the way to go.

Nah, that would be an e-mount - but I doubt Sony would make that happen on a non-Sony camera.
