Is the 160,320,640,1250ISO optimum in the GH1 too?

I just did a very not so scientific test and I don't see some noise discrepancies as in found in GH2 ISOs.

Seems like the noise progressively increases throughout ISOs. And as I previously concluded by eye, I'm comfortable until ISO 500 when it comes to a clean image and 800 and 1600 are good emergency ISOs.

Optimum seem to be 160, 320 (with NR off), 400, 800, 1600, 3200. Avoid 1250 it's pretty awful.

is there any final say from Barry or someone in the know about this? It would be interesting to get a definitive list of ISO's in noise order if its not as simple as you'd think. Could someone explain what impact NR would have on what ISO you choose also?

Well, one thing is you would never shoot with the lens cap on. I've seen tests that favor the round numbers, 200-400, etc, and tests that go the other way as well.

thats what I'm after confirming really. I'd have thought the manufacturers would have made it public? Perhaps I just missed it

yeah I tried it over the weekend and do see a reduction but thats just with the lens cap on, I'm yet to test in real world situation. Funny how as with many users all of my noise is on one side of the sensor (the right for me)

Hmm, I haven't seen any particularly noisy hotspot on mine. Also, I've tested it in the real world and, at least on my camera, it reduces the noise to tolerable levels, to the point where I'd be comfortable shooting high ISO for one of my professional gigs without reducing noise in post.

well I've got a wedding on friday so only have 2 dark evenings to do some tests so I know which ISO I'm comfortable pushing to... I'd better get to work!

edit: well i don't know if I've damaged the sensor before but I don't remember seeing such distinctive and definite lines at the top of my screen like this in the past... (ISO1600)

Those are not FPN lines - have you tried sensor cleaning and pixel refresh modes on the camera.

Damn it :(

No haven't tried those things, have just left for work but will definitely try tonight. I did another test in a different environment and it didn't seem visible so hopefully not as bad as I fear but people trying sensor burn in should proceed with caution..

I should also say during the initial test this happened right down to iso160. For those in the know would that make you think that sensor clean and pixel refresh might fix it?
