Is new GH1 sensor better than the earlier units with the older one?

There was some hints as to this could be true, but I do not know if it is verified.

One reason sited was that, after the initial launch of GH1, the manufacturing of the sensor was shifted to the new factory which was opened later and the sensor from there apparently had 'better' image quality. This is a rough idea I got from reading around various places, so I cannot give one stop source for the 'news'. I do not remember seeing any tests or independent verification for this claim.

I didn't believe it really until I brought mine into Samys and tested my September 09 model vs a new one. Same settings, kit lens, same white wall. Less fpn on the new one.

Fixed Pattern Noise. You probably have new stock, based on your purchase date. They don't sit around in stores/warehouses very long i would imagine.

This is actually something that would be nice to have verified by users with newer cameras - anyone know of any? Would be nice to have some real proof!

1. anyone know how to find out build date and what the exact date of the factory transfer was?

2. mine was purchased October 2009 which is right on the line, do you think mine is a new sensor or old?

I am going to say a def 'YES' to this, as of two GH1s I have access to, one mine and newer, one my friends and older, mine has less of the weird streaking noise... although I have noticed there is some weird light 'grid' that appears on almost everything post hack... it's very light, but it's there.

hey when is yours from, the newer one?

I think if we are to really know whether there's a difference, we need somebody to run some real tests and post the results if possible. If anything, I think taking stills at high ISOs under the same conditions should suffice.

If we can isolate two different cameras that are significantly (not marginally) different, then perhaps we can compare the serial numbers and see if there's some way to tell the age of the camera.

Somebody has to have an early model and know somebody that just recently got one, no? I unfortunately do not know of any other GH1 owners in my area (Atlanta). If there is someone in my area with a newer GH1, let me know and we can run a few tests! I got mine pretty early...

This video was uploaded a year ago, and was probably shot with one of the early GH1 cameras. Now, either this guy is completely lying about shooting all the way up to 1600 ISO (especially given that he was only shooting in available light) or he got one of dem super duper Japanese GH1 cameras! Yee-haw! :2vrolijk_08:

no recall the product for lack of quality control. doesn't matter who uses it right or not, if one customer has a product that performs a certain function and another customer has the same product for the same price but it doesn't perform the same way then there's a problem there

I have shot with a Japan made model (still US ntsc english release) and a China ntsc model and there did seem to be more issues with the China made model.. streaking... shuts off faster after hack.... ect... more random weird sensor noise.... perhaps slightly inferior components or the factory wasn't as tip top as the japan factory?

still waiting for that one kind member on here that has both, the newer gh1 and older gh1 to make high iso -low light test to compare the banding on both..
