Is it just me, or is Thrillfest pretty quiet?

i remember betrayal fest was exploding. had almost record setter entries. then westfest came and it was *plunk* and now this? What happened?

The genre. Thrill Fest is not "horror" or "monster" which does not necessarily involve gore or blood, the easiest type of film to conceptualize and shoot. To create something suspenseful or go Western might be too far out of the box for the site.

Just saying.

I don't think it has to do with gore Charli.

It funny, I often wondered what separates a thriller from Horror, and i think its 'motive'.. A thriller normally requires a detailed explanation for the source of terror, or an unmasking of the antagonist/finding out their connection to the protagonist. There is always a reasoning in thriller, a mind with a purpose.

Horror can be much more primal with little explanation. Love, Quest, Loss, Time can also be interpreted more loosely, even arty. Not sure how you'd make a thiller art piece.

Thriller to me it is more tied to classical structure than any other fest to date. The only other fest I can think of that was more linked to structure was Westfest, and that too was quiet in comparison.

It's not impossible to do though and people should be encouraged to bend and break rules. 'cold calls', 'where the heart lies' are just 2 I can think of that would fall into thriller from previous fests.

But if you're looking for a reason why it's quiet, I think it could be to do with people being pushed into a 'way' of telling a story, which is what I think a thriller does more than the other fests.

Of course there are always exceptions.
