C100: Is Canon going to keep this around at the current price?

Will they keep the C100 around at the $3K-$3.5K(DPAF) price or is it just until stock runs out?

Such a bargain. That is a lot of camera for $3k. I love mine. Wish I had the bucks to buy a second one at the current prices. Like the C100 MKII but it's not worth it in comparison of just raw value.

Canon's action is not just for stock clearance. This is a classic marketing strategy. They have not simply done price reduction. They have slashed the price heavily so that they can penetrate the next level who otherwise would not buy it. So now Canon has got cameras at all price range. The C100 was a runaway success and now at half the price, many more people would buy it. Same theory with C300.

Canon will evaluate the sales data after couple of quarters and will decide if it is making sense or not. If they feel that they are able to get the desired sales, then these price levels will continue. Canon has already recouped their investment with the C100 cameras. Now each additional sale will make them profits and also take away sales from competitors, and increase their lens sales. I think you will continue to see these cameras being sold even next year.

Yes I believe it will continue being made and sold for a long time to come as an entry level to Eos Cinema, not until sock clears. C300 will stillbe around for a while too at 6999$, chuck said they will keep it in the line because of the lesser mpeg-2 50mbps codec broadcasters are used to, C300II has a newer more sophisticated one so not broadcast friendly yet.

I'll tell you what I regularly film on the streets of London and spend most of my time there and still 2 years later the C100 is a rare sight, in fact i've seen one in 100's of events.

I still see guys breaking their necks and explaining to their wives how much they need one on their life. Confused people who've never seen one but have a mk3 5d around their necks. At this point I thought id be seeing them everywhere at this price but I really don't, glad though :)

Spoke with someone at BH who said that price was temporary. (Of course, that could have been part of the hard sell.) I grabbed one just in case that's true. :-)

I bought one a couple weeks ago, my receipt says it's going on until 6/30 so you have ~2 weeks to mull it over.

This is the case for me. The company I work for just bought 3 C100 kits. The price before the reduction and the price of the Mk II were out of budget. I can imagine many other companies making the same move.

Hum.... that could go either way I guess, the price being "temporary" maybe the new price will be $1999.00. Who knows with Canon. I've read post after post of people predicting the new 5D4, and it was nothing like the what we got.
