Is 30fps supposed to look this crumby?

I was using the preset f2 scene setting which was a 30fps one, i was shooting out of the car window. this is what all my footage looks like after i captured it as 16x9 (which is what it was shot as), brought into a 4x3 project and scaled down the video to 75% then i right clicked the clip>field options>always deinterlace. then i rendered, and this is what i get:

i shot 24p footage 2 weeks before and it looks crisp. even though the car was moving, id expect the footage to be a little blurry from the motion, not like jagged and stuff. anyone know if this is a camera problem or a adobe premiere problem?

If you tape video period with lines like that siding on the house you should bring your detail level down on the camera, I get that very same thing when I forget about that.

By "30fps," do you mean 30p or 60i?

If you shot 30p, you do NOT want to deinterlace it. You're throwing away half your resolution for no reason. It's already progressive.

If you shot 60i, reduced it by 75%, and then deinterlaced it on top of that, you've probably tossed 65% of your vertical resolution out the window, which would explain the jagged lines and generally poor results.

Also, shooting squeeze, you're working with an in-camera uprez of footage which is already reduced by 25%, because "squeeze" mode works by taking the middle 75% (vertical) of the 4:3 image and stretching it to 16:9. So, you're starting with reduced resolution to begin with, so you're probably at about 30% overall vertical resolution of what your original image was/could have been.

That said, I'm not sure why you're bringing 16:9 footage into a 4:3 timeline and reducing the resolution?

ill try fiddling with the detail level. its 60i footage too. it does it either way in 4x3 or wide screen projects, i just happened to have a 4x3 project open. i think ill shoot progressive anyways next time

thanks for the replies
