Is 1080/25p 1080i or true 1080 (pal camera)?

Panasonic AG-HVX200: the spec says you can record progressive scan at 1080/25p. I want to know whether that 1080 is true 25 p – I’ve heard (from Panasonic) that the chip in the camera is true 1080/25p, but stored in a way that suggests it’s interlaced. What exactly is going on? Is it 1080/25p, but just stored interlaced to save memory? If this is the case, what am I loosing? How does this 1080/25p option compare to the 720/25p option? The film I want to make will use green screen and I want to record at the highest definition possible, but I’ve been told that at green screen, 1080i is a problem.

It is true 1080/25p. The camera just records it in an interlaced wrapper. Later in your NLE software you can remove that and you get the true 25p.

Edited: And you dont loose any quality.

Thanks for answering. Is the transfer completely loss-free: obviously I'm not loosing definition, but am I loosing colour information? I mean, the sort of thing that might cause me problems with green screen or colour correction. What are your experiences?

I guess I'm really asking how does this 1080/25p on this camera compare to the 1080/25p on a camera that doesn't interlace at any point?

All the same data is there, the only difference is the order in which it is saved ("recorded") to the card.

How data is stored had no affect, as long as it can be reconstructed properly.
Like this...

Word 1: "Hello,"
Word 3: "is"
Word 5: "demonstration"
Word 7: "how"
Word 9: "doesn't"
Word 11: "quality."

Word 2: "this"
Word 4: "a"
Word 6: "of"
Word 8: "interlacing"
Word 10: "affect"

Words 1-11 reassembled at playback: "Hello, this is a demonstration of how interlacing doesn't affect quality."
