A5 processor, HDMI-out, comes with a slick "cover," comes in WHITE!

...yawn...

I know there's not gonna be a huge demand for video-input into an iPad, but that'd be a sure selling point for me.

Did you actually need to buy it in the first place?

Want vs. Need. But, it's done a lot of good for me, especially when it came to showing footage, reels, etc. Reading scripts. Keeping up to date with world news and film news.

However, it was basically free because I had built up Best Buy rewards for two years. =] This is more like a trade-up.

Do you actually 'need' to by any electronic device?

To each their own.

As for the iPad 2, not sure it's worth an upgrade if you own the first one.
I still don't understand what this product is used for, and paying 870 USD for something that can't seem to do anything my mini laptop can't be used for (except it doesn't even have a USB slot) is just beyond me.

Fun. Convenience. Leisure.

My Alienware Netbook can do it all as well, including chop Red footage.

I've found niche uses for my iPad. If it could handle flash I'd watch anime on it all day while editing. Lol

lots of things. there is angry birds. then there is angry birds seasons. and another game where you can be a ninja and slice fruit.

Until you actually use one, you won't understand.
No I've used one. I was given a demonstration and got to try it out.
I get it. You can flip through pages using your fingers because it's got touch screen just like the lobby computer in Die Hard 1 or the cash register where I worked as a clerk at a multiplex.
If you turn it around the screen will flip and change.
If you don't know where you are, it can show you on a map.
Very neat stuff.

870 dollars.

i bought an ipad about 2 months ago, with the intent of it (with a stylus) replacing my note/sketchpad/planner. but the screen recognition wasnt fast enough to keep up with normal writing speed.
so i returned it hoping the ipad2 would be able to keep up.

we'll see...

It's actually great for a lot of things, and it's not so much "you don't need it until you've tried it", it's more of a "you don't need it until you've used it for three months and now rely on it". But more specifically, I've designed interactive catalogs for shows and customer support, used it for my reel, and exploring this digital slate app that claims to be able to put timecode out the headphone jack.

You can also slice veggies...and cook steaks....
