I'm 35 and am not in the film industry (but I want to get into it)...if I had the opportunity to work on the set of a major movie, I'd get coffee, shine the janitor's shoes, take out the garbage..who cares? It would be a great opportunity to mingle, make connections and ask questions.
Can you spell pride?
Perhaps it is my own personal experience, I no longer seek experience and advice on how to advance my career from people who have already done it, in person. Only on internet forums like this that people actually offer real sound advice. The idea working for free just to get my foot in the door to have an opportunity to connect with folks higher up with hopes that they can advance my career either directly or indirectly to me is just pure fantasy, a Hollywood script. In any industry success via this route is an exception not the rule, and I'm sure it is 10 times worst in the movie industry. I'm sure it happens here and there, just don't count on it, don't bet on it.
