When you are shooting in low light in the intelligent auto mode does the shutter speed chaning? if not how does the camera compansate lowlight? does it gain up automatically? idont want to have strange "shutter Speed Effects"

If i use manual mode how do i gain up in low light? cant find anything in the manuel about this.

Yes, shutter speed can change in full auto. There is no gain control on the GH1 (or I think on any DSLR), only ISO control.

There's a trick to get a little extra ISO for low light situations in manual control - someone remind me... to do with increasing exposure compensation.

are you shure?

are you shure?

ok the thing is when are i am shooting my family i prefer full auto because the kit lens is very fast to autofocus, but if the shutter speed changes it dosent feel so googd are you shure it can change? even in the same take?

ok, example...i took my family to the mountains a few weeks ago...
i was in full manual, but i was shooting in the snow with the kit lens. i found myself having to adjust the aperture almost everytime i turned around, and it was very frustrating. here it is, you should notice at 2:10, 2:18, and 2:52...

I've had the same experience... Unless I'm in complete control of the lighting, I prefer to use shutter priority mode so that the camera will auto-aperture during movie.

the stepping is always obvious, regardless of the mode. i do see this quite a bit on news footage, and many reality shows....typically when the cameraman follows someone into or out of a building/house...inescapable to a point.

are you sure

are you sure

Ok offcourse iknow i can do everything all manuel and i often prefer to work so. But my question still is do you know for sure that the shutter changes in ia mode? The manuel says nothing about that. How can you be sure?

I just did a test with my GH1. It looks like "ia mode" adjusts shutter only when in still mode. As soon as you press the movie record button on the back of the camera, shutter speed remains fixed and Auto ISO kicks in. For what it's worth, ISO is essentially the same as gain on a camcorder. Anything above ISO 400 could be considered "gaining up" as you say.
