C100: Improving on camera sound

I've tested all the major small audio recorders and the C100 blows them all out of the water in terms of signal to noise ratio. The Zooms, Marantz, Tascams, etc, are in no way comparable to the C100. I've been shooting interviews for the past year with my C100 and have been very very pleased with the results. No hiss at all when using my Sanken Cos11, Rode NTG3, or Sennheiser wireless kit.

Alright, so this question may hurt sound people's ears really bad... But does it make a huge difference in sound to plug the mixpre XLR output (line) to the C100 XLR input Vs. the mipre XLR output (mic) to the 3.5mm mic input of the C100 ( which allows to get ride of the XLR handle-grip...)

just a question... :)

I am asking because I am wondering if my handle get lost in travel or damage, would the mic 3.5 input of the C100 be a decent solution?

Thank you guys for your input!

The question of whether to use a mixer as a front end to the audio input on the camera is a good question with some obvious answers. The advantage really is much finer and subtle control of levels, better limiters, while recording as compared to the rather coarse audio controls on either the. 300 or 500, and maybe you have a sound guy operating the mixer.
The answer for me is that if you want better sound , use better microphones . The discussion about noise floors is sort of mute in a way because by the time the footage is cut and comes out of a computer speaker or a tv sound system In a living room minute differences in noise floors are lost completely. The signal, on the other hand is not lost and having a schoeps in the right position, sure makes a difference in the signal.
