Importing to final cut. Quality Loss?

Hello,
I am currently running Final Cut 5.0.4 and am importing directly from P2 card. I am doing this through file>import>panasonic P2. Everything is working fine but I was wondering if anyone knows if this method is importing the footage in a compressed state. Should I be offloading the cards through P2CMS first and then bringing them into Final Cut. Please let me know.

No the video quality would be identical to what you had on the P2 card.

All FCP does it unwrap the mxf files and rewrap them in QuickTime
