IMPORTING to FCP HASSLE: NEED HELP

Tim Naylor

When I'm importing from P2 XMF files into FCP to be converted to QT files, I'm faced with a choice. I can name each clip and then drag it in for import or I can drag it in and rename the randomly named/numbered qt's. The former is a pain in the ass and impractical on set (time) and the latter is a pain in the ass and a time suck later.

The random numbering makes verification on set a pain and manually renaming everything on set before import eats time. This is my biggest gripe about the FCP import.

Surely, FCP has a way to automatically rename the clips in some kind of sequential order when they come up in your browser. You know, something simple like 1,2,3,4,5.....etc.

Help.

Ditch the FCP importer, and use Raylight, along with the P2 User Clip Name feature. That way you can assign sequential names to every clip, and Raylight will rename them automatically when creating its MXF reference files.

I hate pain in the ass problems that suck.

:)

I capture to a specific folder, and then use Adobe Bridge to rename all clips sequentially.

I sometimes use p2 Log to get what I want to a folder, and then rename.

These tools cost a little more, but I don't have any pains (except my knees).
