Image quality recording preferences?

Raw? Large, medium or small? What's your preference and why?

I'll be shooting a feature-length film. Editing on a PC using Adobe premiere CS5 (or 5.5.) It might be shown at one or two local festivals. Otherwise, it will be on DVD. I'm just wondering if the larger file sizes are really necessary.

For video or stills?

These settings have no impact on video recording, which is h.264.

What they do set is for still images. RAW is the best, and also produces the largest size of images. Use RAW if you have photo editing software that can handle it (PhotoShop, etc.). If you're only using the free photo editor that came on your computer, use Large (which is JPEG). I tend to use RAW+L so that I can deal quickly with JPEG images and still have the RAW files to work with later.

Hey Alex. It's video. Under "quality" settings.

Right. It still has no effect on video recording. You can snap still images in video mode, so the camera needs a quality setting for that. Again, this does not affect the video recording at all.

See page 129 of the manual.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. On my T2I, in video mode, if I switch from "Small" to "Raw," the video file size will increase. Greatly.

Are you sure about that?
I think Alex is right, that's not dealing with video at all, but rather photos taken if the wheel is in video mode. I'm pretty sure the camera's codec and compression are always the same in video mode.

I'm wrong. My bad. I just did a little test to prove you guys wrong and ... holy crap, you're right. Guess that's why nothing turned up on searches. Duh. Oh well, I got my answer :)
