Idiotic things that only happens in films

Well, at least there's a real reason for that and not a silly plot point.

of course...it almost always looks awesome, but lacks basic logic...the average filmgoer would'nt notice one bit if the streets were wet or dry, they just think night scenes look better for some reason.

HAHAHA^^^ I would love to have one of those ultra advanced uberalgorithim powered super enhancer hahaha

it does look nice (even more when lighting it with helium ballons....) but, hell, everything gets wet, cables, lamps etc.....It's a pain in the ass, but hey it looks cool!

sure looks slick at night..

if my character can man-up and walk away from an explosion at night with wet streets, i'd be a happy camper. noone i know will do it.

Permits and stuff. geez.

for the one person somewhere who hasn't seen it....

Bwahahahahaaa!

I'm also laughing at this one here.

I've always thought that all those shows were for lower-IQ people who just want to be titillated by crime (criminal minds, etc.)... Jeez, thank God all that bad stuff happens so people can get their kicks watching mediocre scripts anchored in some kind of shock-value... nude corpse, macaroni-sounds, etc.

How about the Super Hero suddenly puts on something to cover he's eye and yet no one knows who he is. "He definitely looks like Jim Bob, but wait it can't be Jim Bob, this guy has on Prescription Eye Wear..., but I'm telling you it's him, same hair cut, same voice, same ear, nose..., But Jim Bob doesn't wear tight spandex... Your right, it's not him."

Chick fight! yeah post the URL :)

But seriously, they have done controlled human tests in the past (back in the day when ethics were less of an issue... LOL ) and the average was more like 10-15 seconds for a LVNR hold. Not like 2-3 seconds that you see in the movies. 10-15 seconds on a willing subject. An ex-marine super soldier won't be lying still for the good guy to choke him . As for your girl example... hey it's a chick... :)
It's hard to see when exactly the choke is locked in but I think it's about at the 4:54 or 4:53 mark and 9 or 10 seconds later the guy is out cold. And this is an experienced fighter who knew the choke was coming and did the right things to fight against it. Of course the guy doing the choking has won 10 of his 11 pro fights via guillotine.
The Ultimate Fighter: Season 12

I'm okay w/people taking creative license though because, really, as a viewer I don't want to sit on a choke for 15 or 20 seconds. Just like I'm okay with medical lab tests that happen in seconds on TV shows but in reality would take days if not weeks.

The biggest one is knocking someone out cold with a single punch.
I don't have a handy link but one punch knockouts happen in professional fights so I wouldn't rule them out in a bare-knuckle fight where people aren't familiar w/their opponent's speed and punching power.

A pet peeve of mine though is bullets sparking off of everything they hit.

Movie time works like dream time in Inception. 10-15 seconds is a LOOOOOONG time on screen. Why on earth are you looking for realism in movies? IMO if you have an editor who thinks 10-15 seconds of one guy choking another guy should be in the film, you need a new editor.

The biggest one is knocking someone out cold with a single punch.

new thread?

new thread?

maybe I should make an extra thread: idiotic product placement movies that should have never been made/watched :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

but the sleaze of these product placements has gone as far as not only fighting to get their model car into the next bond flick but to actually create and write whole scripts and films around a product placement! (and your burger flick seems the epitomy of it all:-))

product placement like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077474/ a whole stupid sensless plotless film based on a car that remains unscratched despite all the crashes and afterwards sells like hotcake

I never realized "The Transporter" was a re-hash! Thanks for the link!

Product placement? All I know is if it's a laptop... it's an apple :)

I have no problem with product placement if it's subtle... why not use whatever you can to help fund a big budget movie? Jeez it should be worth 10s of millions of $ to a car company to have their car showcased in a film (again, Transporter = BMW... Bond = Aston Martin (used to anyway)... etc. etc.)

You could do a whole sub-thread of idiotic things that only happen in films... just for Indi and the Crystal Skull! Not just in indi... but avatar, etc. etc:

Animals instinctively cooperate with good guys against bad guys.

All heroes are great motorcycle riders.

I
Animals instinctively cooperate with good guys against bad guys.

Sorry to get all geeky...but I thought it was clear in Avatar that the earth spirit Eywa (who was literally real), was controlling the animals and telling them who to fight.

Jesus, sometimes this board amazes me. Do you want me to post all the times I got a parking spot right in front of a building? Or the times that someone who gets shot might actually leave a loaded gun on the ground? yes, all of these things CAN happen and sometimes do. But I suppose there are those out there who need the point of this thread explained to them.

This thread is about these things being used as a plot convenience, and happening to a degree of reliability at just the right moment to push the plot forward, which would never happen in real life. EVERYTHING in this thread PROBABLY HAS HAPPENED AT SOME POINT IN HISTORY. But it's goofy and funny when it happens very conveniently for the protagonist.

Would you like me to continue on and explain 2 + 2 to you? Or are you good on that one?
