I would be surprised to see a metal PMW level EVF at the $12k price range but you are right, the FS7 MKII broadcast thing means it's possible.

FYI- The VF for the PMW400 / F5 / F55 is made of plastic. It's only "better" in that it can flip open in a manner that allows the screen to be viewed laterally ( looking at the side of the camera ) and it doesn't easily detach as does the original Fs7 VF. It recently occurred to me that had they simply made the Fs7 VF so that it attached via a sliding dovetail rather than the clip method it would have been a more secure and more simple design.

That trade in is good for other people too, it means there may be a flood of FS7 (2) on the market, and flooding the market always means good prices on used gear. But I bet people will be able to sell their used camera for slightly more than the trade in offer, unless Sony is backing the trade and destroying (or upgrading) the used cameras.

Sony will probably do a light maintenance, short of complete refurbishing, on the trade-ins and then sell them to the distributors in less prosperous regions of the world where a new FS-7 is a year worth of income (or more).

As far as I can tell the trade in posted is only for people who bought their FS7 via that reseller. So might not be a Sony sanctioned trade-in. That reseller also has on numerous times broken embargoes. Been wondering many times if they offer good/trustworthy service. Has anyone ever bought from them?

Thanks for clarifying. I've shot the F5 and 55 a few times but I never knew the EVF was plastic, it looked metallic to me.
The EVF setup on the FS7 is not a favorite of mine either, it's kind of floppy and poorly built. I'm shooting the BMD UMP G2 today
and I have to say, the EVF is really good, kind of amazing that they only charge $1,500.00 for it, it's all metal, looks great and is easy to use.

BM's EVF is considered the best for the price, but the built-in/attached cables make it a very poor design.

FX9 fits really well to the shoulder, form is a bit unusual for today's standards, going back to the roots, but it's perfect for shooting.

Also, EVF is great.

Depends on which EVF you're talking about. The LCD may be plastic or largely plastic, but the OLED is a metal body.

Good luck working political conventions or boarding a plane with the FX9. Be sure to bring your Red Bomb and Red Weapon with you as well.

It's been listed on two more retail sites, albeit without a photo or features. 10,000 Euros.

hey, once the cat is out of the bag ...

I can only interpret Dougs silence there's something coming very soon from Sony. He has his hand deep into the Sony can.

There's after market MODS possible to hack it out a bit.

It really is one of the best EVF's going in after market EVF's.

I suspect that had BMD designed it to be easier to use with non-BMD cameras that it would have been almost as popular as the Pocket 4 and 6K cameras. :)

I did check it out when it launched... the image was every bit as nice as the image on the Gratical which was quite a bit more expensive.
