for whatever reason i never seem to like the way modern lenses flare. i'm shooting eos. i know most lenses are designed to minimize flare. i'm wondering if anyone has an recommendations on lenses that flare easy and look good while doing so... ?

also any tips or tricks on how to get a good flare going would be appreciated.

Or buy a pre-AI Nikon prime. Just be sure not to get Penta series as they don't flare nicely. Or you can buy an inexpensive lens and chemically remove the coating.

Option 1:
Look for a really old lens (M42 mount for example) and adapt it to your camera, there are adapters for most lens / camera combinations. You will be able to find some really old lenses which don't have modern multi coating to prevent flares.
Option 2:
Get a anamorphic attachement (I happen to have two and would part ways with one), the one I have flares like hell, check out a test video I did with this anamorphic attachment here:

Option 3:
Buy some plugin for your editing software like Martti suggested.

Option 1 is probably the best way to go, followed by 2 then 3.

There is a cheap and dirty way to cheat the anamorphic flare look..... just get some thin fishing wire and tape it across the glass on the back of your lens (through the centre) then carefully mount your lens.

It works surprisingly well.

Oh, something else comes to mind... we shot a sci-fi short recently and used a flashlight, shining into the lens from an angle and very close to the camera. You have to practice a bit to get the flares right in sync with your practicals but it works quite well also!

hey that fishing line trick sounds interesting... do you have any video online to showcase?
