I vote for DVSLR or DVSC. EDIT -forget that, it's HDSLR

I just thought about this, but the H-- for me-- equals HYBRID. So is it still accurate to call it a Hybrid-DSLR?

I doubt it'll change from marketing word 'DSLR' just yet because all DSLRs will have video soon, and they'll become synonymous with the concept of hybrid stills / video cameras.

It would take a industry wide marketing push on one term to get it accepted by the bovine public!

how about something that doesn't have any of that?
HPVC
Highend Photography and Video Camera

That way the average consumer won't be confused even further between HD cameras and the rest of the technology world.
I get enough students and clients coming into my workshops and class confused as hell not knowing what to ask for anymore now-a-days.

Then a DSLR. Then HDV... and DV... and... ahhhh. A DSL that shoots video. A point and shoot that does video... an HD camera that takes pictures... too many terms lol

DVI to HDMI to DV to Mini Display to AVCHD... average consumers are already getting confused to the point where they don't know that they are comparing a video codec to a physical camera.

All these acronyms make my head spin.

I'd rather call them BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH cams. But for the GH1 I reserve EVIL. I've always liked that. Electronic Viewfinder Interchangable Lens camera. But it doesn't work for BLEEEEURRRRHH SLRs. Damn.

I would have to say (even though I've been calling them VDSLR's) that HDSLR is probably the best of the suggestions... Regardless of it's resolving power, they record HD formats, so.... Otherwise, there are a few cams that we shouldn't call HD cams...

anyways... I laughed my ass off at this... Only b/c the thought had never crossed my mind before:
Well, besides the chlamydial imagery it inspires,

We all know where barry's mind is at...

Oh, and that would go the same for the HPV suggestion above :)

later,
Jason

I vote for DSLR.

(only because i've never heard of a "V-point 'n shoot" Besides, DSLR could stand for Dynamic-SLR)

Other than that, I'd go for HSLR. Hybrid SLR.

HDSLR is too reminiscent of the failed format "HD-DVD" and the crappy "HDV" format.

on top of that, five letters it one too many. It's a mess! 1-4 letters, please.

darn, I've been calling it vDSLR for while now and now you're telling me that I'm going to have to remember something new :)

I've been calling them vDSLRs for a year or so. Video is tacked on the title just like the video feature itself. Hopefully they will grow into HDSLRs, but by that point I hope the mirror is gone.
