I vote for DVSLR or DVSC. EDIT -forget that, it's HDSLR

VDSLR

Trouble is you cant actually make video with them , video is handheld stuff with power zoom and no focus issues

CineDSLR ?

Hehe well one could decide to change the name of a banana and say it is now called a long yeller fruit-a-ma-bob but that doesn't mean it is actually called that. Trust me it is HDSLR. Hehe.

They're still Single Lens Reflex cameras, even if they shoot video. In a year or two or three all SLR's will shoot video, so all this acronym discussion is ultimately moot. They're just SLR's (or DSLR's if you feel like specifying digital).

I like VSLR. It's 4 letters, sounds awesome, and do we really need to keep saying these things are digital? Lets just rename SLRs FSLR for film single lens reflex...they're not the norm anymore, the digital ones are, and so therefore VSLR, video single lens reflex (camera). The end.

The letters S, L and R brought to you by Sesame Street are the problem I have as well with all this.

There doesn't seem to be a relevance to using them any more. The mirror has no roll to play in video. It's a rubbish acronym. HDLSR seems to be the way it's heading and it's not for us to decide - larger market forces and branding exercises will do that, and the people will simply pass around the meme.

I have always had a soft spot for EVIL.

Well, for that matter -- do we even need the letters "SLR"? The GH1/GF1 aren't SLRs at all...

At least we can still just call it a camera. That's usually what I call it, anyway.

Hopefully we can get away from near pase' terms like "HD" since everything is almost HD. "D" since cameras are almost unanimously digital. And "SLR" is nothing but a battery saver. The viewfinder on even pro cameras is annoyingly small, focus with an LCD may soon replace it and SLR's with their clunky mirrors will be less common. (note: viewfinders on full frame slr's are still great.)

Anyway, I'm saving my money for an HCAM. Holographic 3D camera.

Wow, you posted exactly what I was going to post to this thread. But technically you cannot even call them that, since none of these devices contain a light proof, dark box where light sensitive film is kept. There is no film anymore and the CCD is exposed to light 24x7 most in most of them.

HD is the most misused/misapplied acronym in the universe, prefixed to just about everything now. I'm just waiting for the HD-Car, HD-Microwave, HD-Toaster.

Technically HDSLR would apply to the 30megapixel+ Hasselblad/Mamaya still cameras, they have an Reflex Mirror and they are of Higher Definition than your average 12 megapixel SLR.

---

I guess the body type, not the mirror/prism no mirror would define it first, second is their ability to record passable video frames at acceptable resolutions and frame rates.
(audio and other things go out the window).
