I think I've quit....

and, I don't want to kill anyone....

smoking cigs that is... over 3 days now...

Still getting lots of nicotine and the hand to mouth thing, but the nicotine is the least of the crap in cigs... aside from how bloody addictive it is. Had a plan to be tobacco free by my birthday... Well, will be tobacco free a week by then. One step at a time :)

I've smoked for over a 1/3 of my 30 years. From a 5 minute mile and grabbing the rim, to can't even run a mile or touch my 9' ceiling. :) Have tried many times in the past, and for me personally has always been extremely difficult. extremely. This time around has been relatively effortless... Still have the vice, but not the tobacco with all the **** in it and not the combustion... one step at a time :)

Just thought I'd share... I'm kinda proud of this first small step... which for me is the biggest.

later,
Jason

and here i was thinking this would be a thread where you cede administrative power to the first person that responded.

oh well. but congrats and good luck on kicking the habit.

that was the plan... but, I thought I'd use my original post as a cover in case it was you or como who responded first  Trust me... you don't want my job... even though I love it (most of the time) and it's not for sale :)

I have smoked for 20 years, I'm 39. About a pack a day. I quit cold turkey 7 years ago for 8 months and am kicking myself for starting up again. It has never really effected me (yet) I mountain bike 20+ miles, run for 6+ miles on the treadmill. I'm at the age if I quit now I'll be ok but getting close to 40 my risk for cancer starts to skyrocket. I have 5 friends who bought the non smoking pill called chantix (not sure if I spelled that correct) but all 5 quit and it's been over a year for all of them. I'm going to try it, I have heard it can cause weird dreams though.

Good luck to you man and don't start back up, it's a regret I have and kick myself for all the time. Also don't drink alchohol for a while, you'll want to smoke when you drink.

Congrats Jason! Great to hear your kicking the bad habit, and your saying its relatively effortless, sounds hopeful. Have a good a week quit smoking anniversary on your birthday!
Now what is your secret, i'm trying to get my mom to quit smoking, no method has worked. I've heard you have to want to quit, problem is, she doesn't want to. :embarasse

Congrats!
The most important part is your adding time with the people that love you; best gift you can give your family!
Good job and best of luck bro!

Everyone congratulate me, because I've never smoked a cigarette in my entire life.

I've been smoke free for 23 years.

Jason,
You live in Colorado dude. The picture of your lovely daughter shows mountains and blue skies and green. You're better off breathing in all that clean air without draggin in tar and nicotine!

Sorry, just not the same. Oh, in the same vein, congrats for not shooting heroin up either, jpastuch.

If you have never had to try to quit, you will never understand how hard it is. What Jason is doing is difficult and commendable.

I realize I don't know how hard it is and it's commendable that he's quitting. But it's also commendable that I made good choices and just never started. It might be even more commendable, actually.

But I already got one congratulation, and this is his congratulation thread, so I won't say anymore on the subject.

However, I might start a series of threads based off the principle you suggested. For instance, I don't steal, I'm against violence, I'm a vegetarian, etc.

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that it's important to change your statement from, "I think I've quit," to "I have quit". Plan to quit the nicotine replacement crap within 6-8 weeks. Do not go beyond that!

I recommend learning relaxation techniques for when you drop nicotine. In addition, have several activities planned for when the urge rollercoaster begins, such as: taking a shower, playing a favorite song loudly on the stereo, eating candy, and exercising. The urges will come. And they will go. And come again and go again. And then they will stop and you will be free.

Congratulations, former smoker!

Be cool bro, this is a big step for anyone in his situation, at least show him common courtesy and start your own thread like you said and you can share your experiences there :)
