I need to backup but am having a problem. . .

Hey everyone!

I've been working on my film "Perfekt" for about a month now, and I'm looking to save a backup on my 500GB Maxtor external harddrive. My issue is this: It is formatted for PCs and I need to reformat it so I can save my FCP project, but I'm not sure how to do that. I thought that the MacPro would identify the drive as "not properly formatted" and give me the option to format, but it doesn't. Is there something I'm missing here? I checked everywhere, from File to Help and still have no idea how to format the drive, and I'd like to make a backup before I start color correcting and adding effects.

Thanks in advance,
Trigonis

- Use Applications/utilities/disk utility
- Select the disk in the list on the left.
- Click the erase tab from the top middle.
- select Mac Os extended (journaled)
- Click erase

Thanks a lot! I think I'm good to go. If I just drag and drop the .fcp icon into my external drive, does that put it directly inside the hard drive? Just want to make sure.
