7D I need a light kit for my 7D

Thanks guys, it's the truth. I would post some links on ebay to a few great deals I've seen but I already got in trouble once for that lol. Just scan around for lowel kits, there are a few great deals out there.

On a side note, it's the carpenter not the tools! I'd rather have Roger Deakens with a miniDV cam then me shooting on an Imax cam! Don't laugh at a kid with motivation and a dream, he might just show you what an old vhs and a bunch of home depot lights can do! Then you'll look really silly with all that nice gear!

What's wrong with just going to the electronic store and buying a few cheap flourescent flood lights, power surgers, and stands for £60?

If they're good enough to light your entire garden... they're probably good enough to light whatever you want.

Buy cheap buy twice.

$500 is cheap for lighting.

Not to say that you can't make something look good for that or less, but lights are like lenses. Buy good ones up front and they will last you decades. Most of the stuff I have seen linked here won't last weeks with any real use.

Anyone else who tells you otherwise is kidding themselves.

some people seem to be harder on their gear.....
i like to encourage people to buy what they can afford instead of going into debt, especially when you know that you will learn a lot from using the cheaper gear and then when you have enough money to buy the expensive stuff you'll have a very good idea of what you actually need.
i've had my $400 fluorescent kit from www.imagewest.tv for almost 3 years now and it still works great. some non-critical parts have started to show their age and cheapness, but i still have a great setup that makes some beautiful pictures.
and when i'm ready to re-invest in some better gear i now know exactly what to look for.
so even if you have the money or are just willing to go into debt, i recommend starting cheap in the beginning and not over-extending yourself financially. it simply is not OK or sustainable to go beyond your means.

What's the model of the lights you got?

I plan on shooting a video in a house. Gonna be a party setting, so I am looking for lights as well, but don't have the money to be forking out crazy bread.

I use 5 Lowel DP lights with umbrellas 3 500s, 1 750 and 1 1000, 4 cool lux mini cool 250w, I have scrims with barn doors for all of the Lowel Lights and no real light control for the Mini cools. EBAY is your friend if you know how to use it.

yes gene, that 3-light kit will work great.
i've even made it work for 2-person sit-down interviews with 4 cameras.
check out this video as an example (using canon hdv cams):

one thing i recommend though, is picking up a couple of clamp lamps with 5600k daylight tungsten bulbs or led floods to use as hair/rim lights. the fluorescents are just too soft to get a sharp rim/hair light unless the light is right on top of the subject. i've also resorted to using cinefoil around the third light on the boom in place of the softbox to create a more narrow beam for the rim or hair light.
