Hey guys, I've been using the Magic Lantern firmware on my 550D for about a month now and I've noticed some people don't know how to install it.

I made this tutorial to help you guys as you're missing out on some great potential.

Hope it's helpful to some of you. :)

No problem, I struggled myself at first & had to gather information from several websites before i got it all working. :)

One question (well, one right now) - is the firmware still pre-beta, or is it pretty much finished?

The firmware is still pre-beta, Trammel & some others are still working on adding extra features. :beer:
 
Nope - the Mark II has it's own ML firmware, and the 7D can't be upgraded.

Apparently the 7D has built in protection against multiple firmware upgrades, making it all but impossible to hack.

2 questions

Can you adjust the volume? (before recording AND/OR during recording)

How does the AGC get turned off? Is it just disabled when you boot up or can you turn it on/off also is volume adjustable with the agc turned off?

Sorry for the delay in reply.

You cannot adjust the volume yet, the guys are working on a menu system for things like that. :)

The only way at the moment to turn AGC off is to swap the bin file back to the original one without AGC or not use Magic Lantern. But like above, the guys are working on menus and stuff so you can turn these functions on and off. Just takes time. :thumbsup:
 
It seems to be working now on my mac, just by using the Disk utilty from OSX you can make the disk bootable!
Just one thing is a bit strange, it doesn't load automatically after shutting down the camera.... Does that mean that I made a mistake with making the SD bootable? Or is there another error?

If it's not loading automatically, then chances are your SD card wasn't made bootable properly.
 
edit: I got it to work! I hopped on a pc and whipped it out, thanks for the tutorial. Does the non-AGC disable version of the autobin still clamp the AGC down? or is it still there and it just shows levels. I have to wait for my shotgun mic to arrive before I can test out the AGC disabled version (because it disables the onboard mic)
