I literally need a step by step for offloading

Okay,
So I am working with a PC laptop at work. I am shooting on my 16GB P2 card and I need help. I have looked in the HVX Book that came with the purchase and simply need direction. Could someone give me a step by step process (or point me to a link that has this) of how to offload on a PC. I am talking about step by step like you are explaining it to a 5 year old.
Here is as far as I got. I put the P2 card in the slot on the side of the laptop. "Found new hardware" appeared and that is it...
What do I need to download and then once I have that, how do i do it?
thanks guys

You need a blank p2 card(formatted in camera). Then, you need to go to the panny site for their drivers https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/

You would be looking for the p2 drivers. Download the proper ones and then install it. You will be told to put a p2 card in all pcmcia slots on your computer. Do that, and it should be the first option in the list of drivers (don't remember what it says exactly anymore, but it's not usb or any of those).

Check it and begin the install process with your freshly formatted p2 card in your pcmcia slot of your laptop.

Once that is complete, your computer should want to restart.

Once it does, you should be good to go and will now be able to read and access your p2 card when inserted in your laptop.

Then, you have several options. You can offload using your NLE (depending on your NLE), you can just drag and drop the entire p2 card (maintain the directory structure) including the lastclip file onto a location on your hard drive(s), or you can use something like p2cms to offload your footage.

Hope that at least gets you started.

Also, look not just to Barry's book, but to your manual that came with your camera while going through the process. There should be some info in there to help guide you through.

Jason

jason,
thanks so much for the help and not making me feel completely moronic...
i hope you are still awake and will come back to this thread, but can we just start right off the bat with formatting the P2 card in camera.
i have one 16gb card and it has footage on it right now. the footage is useless, it is just something i shot to see if i could figure out how to offload. so erasing it is not a big deal. so, anyway, how do i format this bad boy in camera?

scratch that... got it formatted and it is now blank... now i am just waiting for the p2 drivers to download. i hope i am downloading the right ones... a bit overwhelmed at the choices on the panny site to choose from

You need to read your manual for sure.

Ok... on the back of the camera is a button... a little black button to the left of the battery. mcr and vcr is what is next to it.

Press and release that button. Then you would get the screen showing all of your clips. Now, on the top of the camera is the menu button. Press that. Find the format option and format the p2 card. If you did it right, all of the clips will disappear from the thumbnail menu.

To get back to regular mode of the camera where you can record, you would just press and quickly release that button again.

Anyways, now remove your p2 card from the camera and begin the install process as laid out above.

Read the manual :)

so frustrated... have to go to bed... i have no idea what is going on but the software is not downloading. i guess i will just mess with it with a fresh mind tomorrow.

thanks david s.
I went to the site. I want to make sure I am choosing the right ones here. It will be on a PC with Windows XP. So, I am going to first choose the "32bit driver for all Windows OSes"- right?
Then secondly, under P2 utilities I have no idea which ones I need. I suppose I will download v3.5.12 and p2 card format station for windows since I will just be dragging the clips to an external hard drive to using FCP to edit on a mac.
Then thirdly, under P2 Firmware, I need to download the first box there since I am using a 16GB card.
Then I believe I am done... Holy crap... I had no idea this was going to be so involved. This is what everyone does to set up their computers? How have I missed all this?

no links on the sixbullets website work??? what in the world? i click on one and it says "no documents or no files"

okay i got the P2 drivers downloaded and the P2 emblem shows up in my lower toolbar. i can view the footage using P2 Viewer... last thing I need someone to help me with is this:
1. how do i take the footage that is on the p2 and drag it to my external hard drive. it won't let me drag in the p2 viewer or in the title line inside the dialogue box.
2. i have a 16gb card. is there some sort of firmware update that i need to do to the camera???

once you do that jrod, can you tell me if your footage jitters or not? because i've done the same thing you've done except my footage is totally crap - skips and whatnot
