Alright here is my situation.
A friend of mine wants to buy my 7D(Body only) Canon battery,32GB Compact Flash and a Compact Reader for $1600. So here is what I'm thinking.
I want to use this opportunity in saving myself money. In using $1000 to buy the NEW 60D. Leaving me with $600 left over to buy.

64GB SD cards
Extra BAttery
Underwater Case
SD1400(Using it for behind the scenes) along with battery and underwater case

So what do you guys think. It's going to help me save $600 and it's the SAME for shooting video. I'm not a Photography but I do take shots from time to time. Thanks so much....

unless you use an external monitor a lot then the 60D will be great. The best part about the 7D is the HDMI signal even when recording.

Also, don't waste money on 64 gig cards, you can only record 12 min in a row anyways and they are EXPENSIVE, 16gig cards are fine, 32 if you can find a good deal.

my 2 cents.

You can always buy that extra stuff later......

If you don't have lenses I would suggest buying that as those are always the most expensive.

- Tokina 11-16mm
- Tamron 17-50mm
- Sigma 30mm + Canon 50mm + Cheap Kit Lens ( 18-55mm )

Basically in my opinion I would use that $600 and buy some nice glass. If you already own some nice lenses than I would use that $600 for advertisement and promotion. If no one knows who you are , how are you supposed to get work?

$0.0002

Agree with this...
Except there is no need for that Cheap kit lens. I almost bought the kit and then came across the Sigma 18-50 2.8. Spent a little extra money and it replaces the kit lens and is far superior.
In the case of your post with the Tamron 17-50mm, that replaces the kit lens. Save the 120 dollars and dont get the POS 18-55. Oh and the Tamron 17-50 is better then the Sigma 18-50 2.8.. plus they dont make the Sigma anymore for canon.
I dont know If I would get a sigma 30mm either if you have a 17-50 2.8. I dont think I would worry about that one immediately.

That under water case is going to run you about 1200 bucks too.

I also do recommend people getting a rubber casing and rain coat for the camera. I dont believe the 60d is weather proof. Rubber casing actually probably isnt necessary but I got one for 20 bucks so i took it.
Even if it is weather proof, I would still get a rain cover since your lenses are not going to be weather proof unless your getting L series lenses. Well at least any lens I have owned are not.

Alright! Thanks everyone. Ok first thing is first.
The memory cards. I plan on getting (4) 16GB SDHC card Class 10. So no worries on that.
LENS - I have a Tokina 11-16 Already. Plus a Takumar 50mm 1.4. I'm mostly invested in working video Full time. Photography was second.

The underwater casing is not going to be used for going DEEP. Just for ocean shots and weather protection.

The SD1400 will be used for everyday use on my trip. I'll be going to Nicaragua in April. So I dont carrry around my expensive camera all the time.

I also have to save up for a Portable Hard drive and desktop one. Which I'm planning on getting....
Lacie 2TB - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...il&Q=&sku=598075&is=REG&si=rev#specifications
Lacie 1TB Portable - http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-All-Ter...-301924/dp/tech-data/B003SO4F38/ref=de_a_smtd

Plus If I keep the 7D. I need to buy insurance here soon. That's another $150.
PLus I also need to buy a Metal case for my Macbook Pro Laptop - http://www.radtech.us/Products/MacTruck.aspx

So as you can see. I got Alot of stuff I need to buy. I'm going with a Friend to make a Short Film. So we also need money for the budget of the movie plus spending money to survive....

Ahh I see. Only thing about that case is that it seems like it might vignette with some wider glass. That should do the trick though.

Solid idea going with the Lacie. Make sure you still back everything up though. Ive had a Lacie crash. Also have had 2 WDs crash, which was pretty expected.

Whats the metal case for out of curiosity? Maybe Im just lucky, but ive dropped this thing out of a car a couple of times and traveled with it for over four years now (original MBP) and put it through some hard times and I have yet to have any problems with it (knock on wood!). It literally looks like it just survived a nuclear bomb or something, but no problems with it, hah.
Basically what I am saying is that its better be safe then sorry, but I dont know how much I would worry about that since it has passed my abuse test (which is some serious abuse).

I'm not sure. It might. I'm going to have to check it out more.. I thought so.
The metal case is to protect the Laptop. I actually posted the wrong link.
The casing is only $100 -http://macenstein.com/default/2008/08/review-decocases-alu-magnesium-protection-case-for-macbook-is-heavy-on-protection/
I want to keep it scratch proof. It's the NEW i7. So it was a pretty penny.

But I'm still leaning towards selling my 7D. Everything is almost the same. But the build of the camera. With the weather seal.
But U was thinking with the Rain Cover why would it matter?? I'm never going to film out in the rain without a RAINCOVER.. Same with snow ETC.

Why would you want to do this? When you factor in the cost of your items and the TAX on them will it be worth it in the end? You will also be downgrading by making the switch. Maybe not with image quality so much, but build quality and the options available.

Do what you want, but I would suggest saving your money to buy the stuff you want instead of changing up your whole setup. I say this after saving for over a year to get myself into a dslr, and after extensively considering the 60D and the 7D. I went 7D, and don't plan on looking back. The choice is yours.
