'film' grading, A1 + Letus Extreme

i always tend to over expose because when i get it on the timeline it seems a bit darker than what i had seen when shooting. i say it's better to darken than lighten.

good job.

yeah. but i do admit that i like the results yielded by exposing less that i have been doing, it just is hard to match the high exposure look of the films we are trying to match.

First, the guy is just pink, that's his skin tone. The problem is that he has the same color as the background immediately behind him.

It looks to me like just his face needs to CC'd, and that some of the posts make the subject's face look a little better but also cause the woman's hair to loose color and detail.

ya, to CC just his face i would need to do secondary color correction, which badly need to learn, but have yet to find a place that explains it well. ( at least how to properly use it )

Makeup would also be crucial on someone like him, which will be a note when it goes into shooting the french feature.

Papa - You might want to give this a read.

read the post, interesting stuff. So i guess i was right about the noise level issue.

About the soft clipping, i found a way to make it more gradual by increasing the mids curve and bringing it higher, making the angle from mid to high much less gradual thus creating a smoother transition between blowouts and image.

what else can one do wit ha curve to give it apparent more dynamic range other than what i've previously posted?

a new shot taken today.
Loving the Truecolor preset.

bam, nailed it :) Truecolor was the solution.

now the question is how to replicate such a natural, large sourced daylight light source to creat such a soft look. I have softboxes and cool lights fluoros, but i think i may need something more, yikes..

Larger lights and Bounce boards.

bounce boards. doable.

larger lights. not doable at the moment heh. I have so much to work with.

I really like the color in that last one. Care to share what you did?

By the way, you can usually find a used Mighty for around $200 and those are great for bounce. It's pretty much the strongest light you can use on normal house power.

a mighty? What is that? I will be shooting mostly with daylight temp.

For one, i used the Truecolor preset, and then the rest were the following:

then with a fast color correction filter, i just white balanced nicely and dropped the saturation down. thats all.

Have you changed the truecolor preset in anyway?

Good question, my settings are as follows:

gam: 1
knee: L
Blk: S
Ped:0
Set:0
Shp:-9
HDF: m
DHV: 0
Cor:0
NR1:0
NR2:0
CMX:N
CGN:0
and the rest is accurate to trucolor preset.

Sorry, a mighty is just a 2k open-faced light made by Mole-Richardson. It's tungsten though. They're cheap and very bright.

the only thing is, i don't know of a circuit in a house that can run a 2k, except for one that powers a stove, but man that would behard to get to.
