i went through those threads. this thread had more new conclusions, and new facts and info that were missing in the rest. i prefer deleting the other ones ;)

Sometimes the most enlightening threads are the ones started by total nubbies with presumptious questions, into which lots of wiser voices come. (Not that Benn is a noob at all :)

This is why we don't discuss moderation issues in public. There's always -- and by that I mean always -- more to any moderation decision than meets the eye, and most of the time, it involves things for which there is no reason to have it aired in public -- just as often for the privacy of the person moderated as for any other reason.

Everyone's free to have their opinion, but moderation is at the sole discretion of the moderators. We take it very seriously and do not do anything lightly. In this case, the rule in question was clearly pointed out, so it was not some arbitrary decision. On a board of 75,000 members, obviously some people will always think it was unnecessary or wrong, but we do the best job we can. We try to enforce the guidelines the best we possibly can.

Which also means we can't always see everything that happens everywhere. If inflammatory threads are missing our attention, it's probably because we didn't see it. That's why we have a "report post" function on every post.

So, there is no point in further discussion about the merits of the thread being deleted, nor is there any point in addressing the substance of the post which was deleted. We do not restart threads which have been deleted.

while many much more inflammatory and useless posts/threads get no punitive treatment. In the past I have to admit I've felt that dvxuser's moderation seems to be a bit arbitrary - perhaps based more on what mood the mods are in today than objective characteristics a post/user has.
It's more a case of that there are 231,891 threads, containing 2,208,139 posts. And no, I'm not making those numbers up -- those are the current, accurate numbers as of right this second. How are we to be expected to catch them all? That's why we ask for your help, when you see something that's out of line use the "report this post" button.

And there's nothing wrong with that, and we're glad to have those discussions -- as long as said newbie is polite and respectful.
