Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.0 - Another External Recorder Option

Do you only have to do the manual record once ever or with every new setup? Also, do you mean that you get an extra 10 frames after you hit stop?

Thanks.
Well just the first record and then it starts and stops in sync with the camera.
Every clip starts after 5 frames from the SxS and stops 10 frame after.

Still figuring out the gamma shift issues in FCP...it's a big headache.
Well i guess i have to wait for the pro-res in the upcoming firmwares before i can use the hyper deck on a project.

Write to Apple and say they software has bug- rest of the world had to adjust to all gamma/MOV ralated problems on Windows, so Apple should also fix this problem.

Gamma issue is an APPLE, FCP, MOV NOT DNxHD itself FAULT!!!

i still can't get it...

two versions of the same recorder, one can do dnxhd, other - can't... was it impossible to make original hyperdeck record dnxhd ? i suppose i have to throw out the first one and buy second? and then in the third they come up with prores? :(

There is some change in hardware, but looks like important change- or BM is trying to make money twice. It's hard to believe that they would design this hardware just with uncompressed recording in mind. Anyway- it's very cheap compared to other solution for you can buy 2nd one :)

It seems that color shift is not an Apple issue :

[TABLE="class: gd, width: 620"]

[TD="class: gd_m"]I'm running MC6.01 with the latest DNxHD codecs on a PC. Importing DNxHD files recorded on a Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 are shifting the gammas incorrectly. This happens whether you use the DNxHD direct or QT wrapped DNxHD recording method.

Bringing in the QT wrapped DNxHD by linking via AMA does not help. And the ability to change the range within Media Composer is greyed out for Quicktime DNxHD linkage.

BMD has yet to respond to this problem. They seem to be ignoring it.

I don't think it's Hyperdeck problem. It's generic QT problem, but I would expect AVID working fine with DNxHD.
Why do you need to use AMA for importing DNxHD?
You have to be careful with MOV on PC- it's nightmare, but can be done.

Only way to verify is to record same thing as uncompressed and DNxHD and compare.

update:

After reading thread it looks like it's all user/software error- it's not gamma issue- rather levels.
If someone posts sample of uncompressed and DNxHD of the same shot I can verify as I have proper workflow to deal with DNxHD.

I'm not an AVID suer but I'm 99% sure that you can set during import if your source is RGB or YUV levels. I would not take mentioned post as reference- looks like person, who does it has limited knowledge.

Nvidia card users:

1) Goto Nvidia Control panel

2) In Nvidia Control Panel select adjust video color settings

3) In How do you make color adjustments? Select with Nvidia settings.

4) Select advanced of Nvidia video settings

5)Select FULL(0-255) in dynamic range.

Awesome, I never realized this. Thanks.

This is not a real solution- this applies only to preview in some players.

It still won't fix level problems when you import files to NLEs.

The Hyperdeck Shuttle 1 and 2 says it's 12 volt so I tested the D-Tap power cable for my smallHD DP6 monitor since it has the same plug on the end, and I can verify it works great. Here is a link to the cable. It's way cheaper than the Switronix one, it just doesn't have a D-Tap pass thru port.

Great find, thanks for the info! Anyone knows if this same cable could be used as cheap alternative to power Tv Logic VFM-056WP?

yes it does, assuming its the same cable that comes with the small HD 4. However be aware that I had to send one back because it was intermittent.

If I use a HyperDeck in the field, what's the best way to backup the SSD cards so they can be reformatted and reused?

Related: can you delete files and/or format in the field without having access to a computer?

Thanks.

There is really no way to either backup, reformat or delete, without using a computer. You really shouldn't need to reformat the SSDs, unless you encounter errors. A MacBook or a Windows laptop running MacDrive and a USB SATA dock like this one is all you need to transfer and delete files. For greatest transfer speed, the laptop should have USB 3 and a fast hard drive, preferably an SSD.

There's always a chance that the ability to delete files just using the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2, will be added via a firmware upgrade.

Thanks. That wouuld be a nice option to add.

Is there anyway to connect the SSD to a laptop using an ExpressCard on a laptop?
