HVX200 questions

Before I start this, sorry in advanced if their are a ton of topics with these questions answered already, I've been lurking on here for a couple of hours and still can't really find these answers.

So in a couple of weeks I am planning on upgrading to HD, and the HVX200, and I pretty much understand most of it, just the P2 cards. Since the HVX200 and the 8 gig or 16 gig P2 cards are already expensive as it is, I cannot afford to buy a laptop with the PCMIA slot. I have an Imac G5 and I was wondering what other ways are their to get footage onto that? I know their are things such as "go" drives. But can anyone link me to one to see what it looks like and how much it is? If it is talking about this model...,the AJ-PCS060G that's to expensive and I mine as well buy a laptop with a PCMIA slot if it is going to run that much money. Once again sorry if these questions have been answered millions of times already, I am just still confused.

So your saying just plug the FW into my mac/hvx, and follow Barry's offloading procedure (the one to prevent glitching). And everything should work out? If it's that easy, then why does everyone buy a laptop with the PCMIA slot, if they already have a mac and can just do this? Just a simpiler way?

Laptop with a PCMIA slot allows you to offload your cards in the field, so you can format your cards and keep shooting. If you don't have an offload device for field shooting, you are restricted to the amount of P2 storage you take with you.

Ah ok makes perfect sense. So a laptop would def. be worth it, because I film skateboarding pretty much all day and it is alot of footage from makes/no makes/bails etc. So a laptop would be handy, thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it.

A laptop with a PC Cardbus II slot.

Apple doesn't make them any more, so it's either a PC laptop or a MacBookPro with an EC/34 slot and a duel adapter.

Not anymore. You cannot erase or reformat the cards on the computer anymore. You have to use the camera or other Panasonic P2 device to do this.

Stinky.

Probably not the best way to do it, but I just delete all of the files inside the already formatted P2 card structure. Keep the main folders, just dump everything else on the MBP. When I put the cards back in the camera, they are empty and they read fine. I've been doing this ever since the 16GB cards hit and it works.

It's a PITA, but what else can I do when I have to shoot many hour interiews continuously? I don't have a P2 Store or second camera.

Not on a Mac you can't.

Have Macs ever had that capability?

I erase successfully on my MBP. You just have to go into each folder inidividually and delete the contents only, not the folder structure. It's a pain, but it works.
